Cat Bite question

Post a new topicby DCanimalz on Tue Jan 27, 2009 7:58 pm

Approximately 3 months ago I was bitten by a cat in my DC neighborhood that lived completely outdoors. He had an owner, but he had been a stray that they adopted. I believe he had received some shots at some point b/c he had a tag, but lord knows how long ago that was. That cat was very playful, kept rolling on the ground being very lovey. In his playfulness, he did bite me in my arm...nothing serious, but it did break the skin. Not thinking much of it I believe I washed it out a bit later and went on with my day. Now that I am a vet assistant student I am more privy to the precautions that should be taken regarding cat bites and/or scratches. One thing that concerns me though is that I have read there can be an uncertain amount of time that the rabies virus can rear it's very ugly head in humans. If the cat bit me 3 months ago...can I assume that if I'm fine now that I have nothing to worry about?

Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

Thanks!

As far as I know, if the cat bit you 3 months ago, you should be fine now. If you are concerned, call your doctor.
