is there such thing as rabies immunity?

Post a new topicby ayanne16 on Sat Sep 06, 2008 6:01 am

i have been bitten by a dog 13yrs ago and got 14shots of rabies vaccine and 2 shots of anti-tetanus, around 5 years ago my dog now dead, had accidentally scratched my hand, it doesnt have a wound or a cut, it just felt sore. so i didnt mind it.

just a week ago, my cousin asked me to look after her puppies (around 1.5 months old then), she said that the puppies mother died because a car hit the mother dog. i love petting puppies..so i allowed them to like my hands, until a finger of mine felt sore for a few seconds. since the place where i petted the puppies were shady i went in the house and checked if i got scratches or wound or cut, i also poured alchol on the sore area just to check if there's a scratch or something...
but i didnt find anything, and it didnt sore when i poured alcohol nor when i washed my hands with soap and water... so i didnt inform my cousin about it.

when i visited her house a week and a half after most of the puppies died but one. so i asked my cousin if she already gave the puppies away, that's when she said they died with bloated stomachs and she said it might probably be because they eat rice (we're asians so we feed our dogs with left over food and rice is asian's staple food) when they are supposed to drink milk from their mother dog. when i asked where the puppies are buried she said thay they threw them (im currently in the philippines, where my cousins live).

im kind of scared that the puppies might be carriers of rabies ..
and im kind of paranoid about rabies .. since here in the philippines there are lots of stray dogs and that i have seen a couple of documentaries on this country's late night shows about people with rabies and that the country has many incidence of rabies...

so from the shots i got 13 years ago... is it safe to say i kind of have immunity with the rabies virus? and what should i do about the soreness i felt then... i dont think the philippines has some technology on testing if i have (dormant) rabies virus in my body... im kind of paranoid now coz i still havent gotten over the trauma i had 13 years ago (the dog theat bit me died also).... im scared really... do i need to get shots again? and also are there any psychological side effects of the rabies shot.... im just curious of the possible side effects.

First those pups died of Fading Puppy Syndrome. Usually the first batch all die off but maybe one might survive. After that, all the next pups thereafter will live and many wonderful pups and pups and pups!!!!!!!!!

Secondly> YOU DO NOT HAVE RABIES

So relax and enjoy your life.

Immunity from Rabies, no

Paranoid about this topic, don't be silly, relax and enjoy the breeze!!!!!
