dog loss

On Mother’s day my 10 year old dachshund began to vomit. He became very lethargic. Due to the fact that it was mother’s day I did not want to bother my local vet. So I took my him to a 24 hour emergency care facility in WI.
The staff at the facility was very caring and treated my dog and me like we were valued.
During my dog’s evaluation I was told he had a heart murmur of 4 on a scale from 1 to 6.

The doctor suggested blood work.
Once the results came back I found out...Read the full article

I am so pleased to have read your story. My beloved dog, a 13 year old Dachshund, passed away 3 weeks ago today. He had vomited on Wednesday night, and I went to work on Thursday. Realizing he wasn't doing well, I made a Vet appt for him on Friday morning. Unfortunately, he died before I could take him. I am crushed. He was a wonderful dog..........just like yours, kind, loving and considerate. I now cry because I didn't realize how quickly I needed to act. You see, I had another dog who had Cushings and Diabetes for 4-1/2 years, giving him 2 insulin shots per day. He vomited and had diarrhea at least 3X a week.............so when he vomited, I didn't know it was near the end. I should have realized it because he was very lethargic and lost his bodily fluids, consequently getting dehydrated. However, I still thought I could seek help.

I thank you, though, because now I realize my dog may have had Diabetes (he started drinking a lot of water), or possibly liver disease (his liver count was a little high when we had 11 teeth removed from his mouth), or kidney failure, or heart failure, or a stroke..........I guess the list of possibilities is endless, but at least I now realize it may not have been preventable, and that helps me immensely.

Thank you for you article. The pain is still excruciating...........I'm hoping it has gotten easier for you. How is your blind dog...........my first dog was blind for over 5 years. We try to be great dog owners, but when the time comes that we lose them, they are just like our children. Life is difficult at times.

Again, I believe you helped me and I appreciate it.
