Cats that won't defecate in litterbox

Post a new topicby kimluvspyrs on Sat Mar 08, 2008 8:29 pm

My 7 year old, neutered male cat defecates on our dining room floor every day. This is the only room in the house where he chooses to do this. As far as we know, he does not urinate outside of the litterbox. We have moved furniture around, and recently added a large rug that covers a large part of the wood flooring. When we consulted our vet, we were told there could be lots of reasons and that it is hard to determine. She said it could be behavioral or that he has some colitis and associates discomfort with the litter box. Has anyone else had this issue??? Help!

I'm just a regular cat owner thats always had them. so this is just what I have experienced. My cats wont use the litter box if its fragranced. Also, if multiple cats it could be a fear of being attached when using the litterbox. Have you changed litters lately? Is this a cat you have had a while and just started this?- if so, its a good question for your vet. Cats don't usually just change their bathroom behavior unless something medical might be wrong.
