Bringing home a new pet requires a period of transition and adjustment for other pets in the household. Some pets may hide from the new addition and others might try to push it around. Pets may begin attention-seeking behavior such as barking, pawing, stealing items, pushing the new addition out of the way, and jumping. This behavior should discontinue within a week or two. We have 2 male bengal cats that we purchased within 6 months of each other. One was 3 years old, the other 2 1/2. One came from family who didn't want him anymore and was always out and about and the other from a breeder who was retiring him and he had never been out.

Our first cat settled in really well, although he is quite a shy cat and took a few months to get to know us but when we brought the second cat into the house, they did not like each other. We then separated them as much as possible (this was quite difficult as one cat was going out and the other wasn't) and there were occasional fights that were pretty agressive but didn't last very long. It was more noise and flying fur than anything else. Our first cat would only stay on high objects such as the fridge or on top of the kitchen units to be well away from the other cat and he would make the maddest of noises towards the other one. Gradually, the first cat started to come into the room that the other cat was in (he was with us most of the time) and became less frightened by the threat of being attacked. 2 years on and they are pretty much the best of friends, they sleep together, play together and generally get on. The fighting gradually changed to more play fighting and they are really funny now and we have a lot of laughs. So I would say to persevere with it as it can last for up to 6 months!
