Gastric Dilatation and VolvulusI came home to a sick standard poodle, retching and otherwise miserable. He had been fine three hours before. At the risk of overreacting, I took him to the 24 hour emergency clinic, and thank God I did. He had GDV which we caught in time. If I can advise other owners of large breeds, if you suspect GDV, don’t wait! Your dog WILL die if this isn’t treated immediately. If you’re wrong, and it’s just nausea, so what!

Re: Gastric Dilatation and VolvulusI couldn't agree more. TIme is so critical with this serious medical condition, there is no reason to ignore the symptoms. The symptoms come on so suddenly, I don't know what we would have done if we hadn't been home at the time. Please, if your pet is showing any of these symptoms, get medical treatment immediately.
