Have had a small cat for about 6 months, have been taking her tot he Vet each test shows She has Leukemia she does not show any problems. The SISTER CAT which is at another home shows CLEAR as well as a couple others from the litter. Could this be a false Positive? She is active shows no signs of the disease and will watch her and keep taking her to the vet for check-ups
Also would vitamins help or a additive to her food to keep her boosted up JUST IN CASE???
Thanks
Mark

NEED SOME INFO ON LEUKEMIA
Re: NEED SOME INFO ON LEUKEMIAFrom what I'm learning there's no definite answer -- some people say test again after 1 month, others say test after 3 months -- it seems it can go away. Especially in kittens. Stress seems to be involved.
I have Oreo, a rescue cat. She tested positive for feline leukemia The vet said we could have her retested in a month and she might have fought it off. The problem is that I have a cat who is healthy and so I cannot keep Oreo. She needs to go into a home with no cats or cats who also tested positive. She is not contagious to people or any other animals, only cats. She's very sweet, though somewhat shy. She has never been in a house before. My husband and his friends at work had been feeding her and taking care of her. She's very friendly and affectionate. We want very much to find her a good home. My home email is [moderator note: e-mail address has been removed].
Re: NEED SOME INFO ON LEUKEMIAI have been told that in some cases, though fairly rare, it is possible for a kitten to contract FelV from its mother and become a carrier of the disease. The good news in these cases is that the cat may remain healthy for many years, but the bad news is that he/she will always be a carrier and may therefore infect other cats. If your kitten continues to show positive for the disease, just take sensible precautions (like keeping her inside and not letting her mix with other cats), and make sure she has regular check-ups with the vet. Other than that, enjoy her company and treat her normally!
