Cat has had Feline Luekemia for 2 yearsMy cat was diagnosed with Feline Leukemia approx 2 3/4 years ago. when he was diagnosed, he wasn't eating or anything. I brought him back by giving him Interferon and Pedialyte. He bounced back and was a normal healthy cat with the disease. HOwever, about a week and a half ago, he has been activing different. He is still eating, drinking, urinating, etc, but all he wants to do is lay and sleep. I took him to the vet who said that he has lost 2 lbs since they last saw him which was 2 years ago. The vet said that since he didn't have another other symptoms other than losing weight, she gave me vitamins and I am now waiting on the Interferon to come in. He is eating, drinking, etc, but it just seems like he is losing weight. Does anyone have any suggetions on what I can do, or if it's the disease and I just need to keep him comfortable. I don't know what to do. Is him just sleeping and not having a lot of activity mean that the disease is slowly taking his life?
Re: Cat has had Feline Luekemia for 2 yearsI just wanted to let everyone know that I had to put Leo to sleep on Sunday. He was strugging to breathe so we took him to the emergency room. They indicated that they could try to do some stuff but couldn't guarantee anything. We decided the only human thing to do was to end his suffering. We brought him home and last night we buried him in the woods behind our house. Leo loved playing outside in those woods. He's home now, but we feel such a void. I loved him terribly. His personality was sorely missed last night and will be forever.
Re: Cat has had Feline Luekemia for 2 yearsI am so sorry to hear about your precious kitty. While doing hurricane work this year, my son and his girlfriend picked up a stray and what looked to be a "starving cat" and brought him to Texas with us where he lived for two months. When we finally arrived home less than two weeks ago, they took him for his appointment to get neutered and found that he has FeLV. We are all very sad about this and they have decided to take the holistic approach. We are all hoping this works. We are so attached to him after two months, I can't imagine what it must have been like for over two years.
The dilemma now is that we must have our other kitties tested even though he was crated almost the entire time. The thought alone is devastating. =*[
Re: Cat has had Feline Luekemia for 2 yearsI am so sorry for your loss... It is like losing a child. We have had to put down 3 kittens with this
terrible disease.... With all the medical knowledge,, one would think there would be some medically proven cure for this terrible life robbing disease... Just knowing that you gave Leo love and hope will give you a spark of peace,,, knowing you loved him enough to try to keep him alive, as long as you could the human way. Bless you. My thoughts are with you
