Always part of the family… 09 March 2009

I have taken the time to read the articles posted on your website and am encouraged by the fact that many pet owners are still living a long and wonderful life with their pets. I had 2 cats, one who became pregnant. When the kittens were old enough to give away to good homes, we couldn’t get ourselves to depart. The family decided to keep 3 with mom and an older cat who has been part of the family for 18 years (aunty Candy)
We spent wonderful times with the 5 filling our days with joy.It w...Read the full article

My vet just called me about an hour ago with the news my female cat (Cally) has leukimia. I took her in yesterday because her meow wasn't the same. It sound like she was in pain. Then I noticed she could hardly walk. When I took her in I was told without tests being done that it seemed to be she was having kidney failure. When I left her yesterday I really thought in a couple days I would be bringing her home in a couple days. The phone call today was devastating. My vet said he did not see her coming out of this. Her red cell count isn't even showing up. He also said at this point he can't even give her an IV. I know I have to call him back and tell him to put her out of her pain, but I just can't do it yet. Then I need to decide if I let them take care of her or do I bring her home and bury her up on the hill by the barn I found her in 8 years ago. I took her and her brother in when they were only about 4 weeks old. The mother cat had been killed and they were starving. I'm sorrry I know that I'am rambling on and probably not making a lot of sense right now but I just had to communicate with someone who understands this type of loss.
Thank you for your time.

we had to put one of our cat's down last week for the same thing - he just wasn't himself and he wasn't eating or drinking much. now we have to get our two other cats tested and it is very heartbreaking! it wasn't even our oldest cat who had it. we have a cat that is 18! -not sure if will get him tested the trip to the vet may do him in. and then we have a 2 year old cat. it will be very difficult to find that either of them has this. our vet hasn't even called to let us know what we need to do --very disappointing. we were so sad - he was part of the family and our sons cat. we miss him terribly especially when we come home from work and/or school. take care in knowing we feel your pain and we can only hope we have learned from this and I have had cats all my life and never heard of this virus. the Davis'
