My sweet boy Jack

Post a new topicby houseoffourcats on Mon Feb 11, 2008 5:27 pm

Jack is a six year old until 4 days ago, healthy happy cat. We adopted him from the selter over 3 years ago. I have 3 other cats, all indoor, and a retired greyhound. I took Jack to the vet about 3 weeks ago for his shots so I could get his license. About 3-4 days after the shots, we began to notice that Jack was quiet. Ususally, he is very playful and affectionate. We then began to notice that one of the bunch was not eating all their food. With 4 it is hard to see who it is. We finally saw that it was Jack and thought that he was just tired of the flavor of the fancy feast canned food and tried a different flavor. He only ate a little and then again nothing. We also noticed that he was not grooming himself. I took him to the vet and was shocked to learn that he lost almost a pound in 3 weeks. He was admitted and tests started. All his blood work came back normal. Urine test was normal. Feline Leukemia and Aids were negative. Toxoplasmosis was negative. Xrays were normal. Corona virus came back possitive. The vet does not think that it is FIP since all other tests were normal, he said that there would be some change in blood work. They have been force feeding Jack, since he still wasn't eating, but he did start eating a little on his own yesterday. The vet says he can come home tomorrow and we have to watch him and if he isn't better within a week, to bring him back for a possible ultra sound. I am besides myself. I have never heard of this and can't believe this is happening to a beautiful healthy cat. Please post me your views on this. I need support right now.
Thanks, Joanne

I'm so sorry to hear about Jack. I too wonder if the problem is FIP - 6 years old is not the typical age for a cat to suffer from FIP from what I hear. Usually young and old cats are affected most often. Could it be some sort of reaction to the shots?
