FIPI have 4 cats and my one was just diagnosed with FIP I can't seem to find out if my other cats are going to catch this. Can anyone advise me? Thanks.
Re: FIPHello,
I am sorry I did not see your question earlier. First, I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination. I lost my little kitty to FIP on October 20, 2007. We had a 7 week battle with this horrid disease but it was 7 weeks I would do over and over again. Captain was among only 5% that have the FIP in their brain. He would go from being very sick to feeling well enough to play with me and the other kitties. I also used this time to make sure that the FIP diagnosis was correct given how hard it is to truly diagnose FIP. To answer your question about FIP being contagious I will ask you to talk very openly with your Vet. My Vet who is a well known Feline Specialist is very specific that FIP is not contagious. Although some or all of my other four kitties may test positive for FIP he believes, as do most Feline Specialists today, that they may never actually get sick from the virus. He is very much against the only vaccination available for FIP saying that it does more harm than good. I suggest that you read everything you can on FIP but be very careful of what you read on the internet. Seek the help and advice of a Feline Specialist if possible. I wish you good luck in your search for answers. Barbara
Re: FIPWe are in the same situation, has anybody replied to you?
Re: FIPThank you so much, where would you find a feline speciailist/
Re: FIPHello,
Go to the internet and "google feline specialists" it will list them by state. I live in Houston where there are many of them. Most mid to large cities have many of them. How are things going with your kitty? I hope all is better. Barbara
Re: FIPthanks for the suggestion. we have mogley on prednisone now and he is acting much better, eating, purring and getting tired of being locked in one room - we are afraid to let him be near our other cats - there is so much information out there saying yes the other cats can get this from him and then no they can't - not sure what to do. tomorrow we are adding interferon to his other meds - its just a wait and see game. we do not want him to suffer but we don't want him to die - he is so young and so sweet. thanks for your reply, mary
Re: FIPJUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW WE HAD OUR MOGLEY UNTIL CHRISTMAS MORNING. HE PASSED AWAY WHILE WE WERE SLEEPING AND WE FOUND HIM CHRISTMAS MORNING. WE FEEL SO SAD AND I NEED TO KNOW IF WE DID ANYTHING TO CAUSE THIS IN HIM BECAUSE I FEEL SO GUILTY THAT HE HAD TO HAVE SUCH A SHORT SAD LIFE. WE GAVE HIM SO MUCH LOVE THIESE PAST FEW DAYS AND HE GOT TO SHARE CHRISTMAS EVE WITH US. I FEEL BETTER THAT HE DIED IN HIS HOME BUT IT WAS SO HARD TO GO THRU CHRISTMAS DAY KNOWING HE WAS IN OUR GARAGE. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUGGESTIONS, I GUESS WE WERE FOOLISHLY THINKING WE COULD DO SOMETHING TO HELP HIM AND SAVE HIM. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Re: FIPHello,
I am so sorry to hear abour Mogley and I know how your heart is breaking. Don't feel sad about how short his life was because had it not been for your love and kindness Mogley would not have had the wonderful life he had. There are so many kitties who spend their nights and days without anyone to love and care for them bt you gave Mogley a beautiful life. Wanting Mogley to live and not giving up on him was anything but foolish in fact it was an incredible tribute to your love and devotion to him. Mogley is now at peace and you did a wonderful thing by allowing him to go in his home where he was loved. Than you for being a special kitty mommy. Barbara
Re: FIPOUR MOGLEY DIED CHRISTMAS MORNING, IT JUST SEEMS SO UNFAIR. THANKS FOR YOUR ADVISE EARLIER. MARY
Re: FIPTHANK YOU FOR THAT BARBARA. I AM TRYING TO GET OVER THE GUILT OF FEELING WE DID SOMETHING TO CAUSE THIS. YOUR KIND WORDS DO HELP AND I AM TRYING TO THINK HOW LUCKY HE WAS TO BE SURROUNDED BY PEOPLE WHO LOVED HIM EVEN IF IT WAS FOR A SHORT TIME, MARY
