Our Little DeweyWe adopted Dewey from Pets Mart on my birthday Dec.3rd.07. After a month or so, he began to get a fever and was not himself. He had a complete CBC but we were told everything was normal and perhaps he had uti. They gave him antibiotics and sent him home. A couple of days later, his fever spiked again and we took him to the emergency vet where after 2-days they ran all sorts of tests and he was diagnosed w/FIP.
Dewey is barely hanging on and at this point, I know the outcome. My heart is broken...Read the full article
Re: Our Little DeweyMaureen,
I am sorry to hear about your loss. FIP is a devasting disease for kittys and owners. Watching FIB destroy my kitten BB was one of the hardest things I have done and I to had to make the decision to end his suffering. Please try to remember that you did all you could and that it comforted Dewey greatly to have you to love. It has been 8 weeks since I lost BB, I still think about him everyday and miss him, but the pain does lessen. Do not blame yourself, there was no way you could have prevented this. Give your heart time to heal and then when your ready find another little soul to save for your and Dewey. God Bless you for caring. Lyndy

Re: Our Little DeweyIm sorry about your loss. I also adopted a kitten from Pet Mart. Today I had to put her down, it was hard to do but I could not stand to see her suffer. She could not walk she was only 5 months old. Sorry. They will always be our little angels
Re: Our Little DeweyI truly know what you are going through. I also adopted a kitten from PetsMart, his name was Andy. Yesterday Andy was put to sleep after being diagnosed with FIP. I briefly heard about this disease from my friend who had her 11 year old cat put to sleep last March from FIP As soon as she saw Andy and heard his symptoms she knew what it was.
We Andy 11/1/06. Five days later we had him at our Vet for an upper respiratory infection and eye infectin. He was plaed on antibiotics and it went away. Andy was fine up until 5 days ago when he came down with watery eyes, sneezing and runny nose. Again he was started on an antibiotic. Yesterday Andy started acting funny, had a loose bowel movement on my floor and went into having a seizure. We took Andy to the Emergency Animal Hospital. After hearing all of Andy's symptome and doing an ultrasound, which showed fluid in his abdomen high in protein, confirmed the Vets first diagnosis, FIP We took Andy home that afternoon, but several hours later he had another seizure, and his hind leg became paralyzed. Andy returned to the Emergency Hospital and was laid to rest that evening. After much investigation, we3 found that the shelter that Andy came from had a cat who also had FIP This was not passed on to PetsMart or myself. We lost a big, precious part of our family on 1/19/08.
Re: Our Little DeweyI'm so sorry you lost Andy to FIP. This disease was also new to us when Oscar was diagnosed with neurological FIP
Andy is now healthy and happy again at the Rainbow Bridge, playin with Dewey, Oscar and all the other precious angel kitties. Kind regards, Marleen angel Oscar's catster page: [moderator note: website address has been removed]
