my beloved catHi everybody, I just wanted to share this experience that I had with my beloved minina cat that was her name. All of a sudden she started loosing weight and to the point that even if she ate and drank she was soo dehydrated when I took her to the vet. So they gave her fluids through IV and also before going home under the skin. Unfortunately she didn’t get any better and later the next day she had to be hospitalized for 6 days. The fluids had caused here labored breathing and had to be...Read the full article
Re: my beloved catI just read your story and aside from the emotional grief, you have been taken for a ride by the vet community. They should have recognized the symptoms of FIP immediately and all you would have had to pay for was that visit and of course the euthenasia. I am so sorry for what you have been through. I would fight paying that bill because of malpractice. I just learned about this disease. We became foster parents in early Oct. to 3 adorable kittens. In December it was time to give them up to be neutered, so we did. But we missed one of them so much we got him back. We noticed in the last few days his stomach was huge, the rest of him thin, and he was not very active. My husband just took him to the vet and he was immediately diagnosed with (wet) FIP. He was only 3 months old and now his young life is gone. We are in shock but at least we didn't have to go through what you did. I'm sorry again.

The vet now believe that Berte has chronic kidney disease rather than FIP. His nephew Elmo who was golden Tabby Persian 10 years old died two weeks ago. My husband found him dead in front of his water dish. We are in shock. All of us are grieving the loss of our very healthy so we thought Persian. We just adopted a creme persian from AJ Best Friends who do Persian cat rescues on January 1, 2009. Fozzy doesn't replace Elmo who they think had a heart attack or stroke. Thanks for the pos. Joni
Re: my beloved catHi
Just yesterday we were told our kitten marley has got FIP of the dry type, obviously my partner and i are heartbroken and the kittens (marley and socks) are only about 15 weeks old and we took them in for thier first Vaccinations and marley had a reaction to the vaccine which brought out the virus and therefore put him on a ticking clock :( While we are concearned for marley another concearn we have is for his brother Socks who may also have the virus but it has just been dormant in his system, my main concearn about this is we have been told we can bring marley home tonight while we decide the next steps on his wellbeing but i am worried socks may contract the virus from his brother through say saliva or fecease or it may bring out the virus he already has caught from his mother or the shelter we got them from and obviously we do not want one ill kitten nevermind two !!! Lastly we are left with a decision on Marley to bring him home and risk Socks getting ill also or consider euthenasia as we are trying to be as fair to the kitten as possible, but we dont think he has had a chance at life yet and at least want to make his last few days-weeks--months the best we can for him as we have tried our best to be good parents but we dont want mayley to suffer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated or if anyone has been in a similar boat i would be happy to hear how you went about dealing with this harrible virus, thanks Liam
Re: my beloved catFIP is different in every cat, and your vet did the best they could not knowing the problem. I had my perfectly heathly cat taken to the vet with what I thought was an absess and was told she would probably not live through the weak. That was three and a half months ago and my vet and all the staff are praying that she will be the miracle. We are thankful that we had more than the few days we thought we had. She celebrated her 2nd birthday May 13th and killed a Robin today June 20th. Our family of 2 other cats a big goofy dog (her best bud) and 2 rabbits, my daughter and husband have been blessed to have shared this time with her and if she does leave us it will be a great loss. I don't know how she has lasted, she is amazing and beautiful!
Re: my beloved catBerte passed away on January 13, 2009. On Super Bowl Sunday Serenity his sister and litter mate started throwing up blood I took her to Surrprise Animal Hospital. I paid $545 and blood work. Thenext day I took her back and spent $545 for an MRI. Th vets in hoenix ar very exensive and do little more than run expensive tests.I called my old vet Cody Balock in Gallup,NM. I was prepared to drive her there. His brother-inlaw, Dr. Jim Maciulla is a vet in Flagstaff, Serenity spent 5 days at Continental Animal Wellness Center and Dr.Jim chargethe same amount I spent for one day in Surprise. She has health insurance, Pet Care has yet to reinburse me one thin red dime. Any suggestions, I have spent over $2000 and have yet to be reinbursed. Serenity has Inflamitory Bowel Disease and Lymphoma. She is down to 4.5 lbs but is still hanging in there. She takes liquid fish flavored prednisone and cyproheptadine. She so on a green pea and duck cat food. Each day with her is a treasure, she now lives with us in the master bedroom. Any ideas about getting the insurance company to pay.

Re: my beloved catIn Canada you would have needed to already have insurance and there are many things they don't cover as with any insurance, if they can get out of it they will. My little 2 year old is still eating everything that she can she is like a machine, yet today she can't see very well. I give her penicillin every day and just wait.
I am sorry for your situation, wish there was a cure. Sincerely, Mitten's momma
Re: my beloved catThis insurance company is based in Canada and I want other pet owners to know that they are theives. They operate also in the U.S. I will continue to write about Serenity's progress. She has good days and bad days. Last night was a bad night. She still is eating. Keep me posted on Mittens.
