FIP is awfulMy wife and I have had three great cats in the past year (our first year of marriage - married Sept 4, 2006) and all three have passed due to FIP
We adopted our first cat, Boo Boo, after she was found by a woman at a flea market. She was a great cuddle cat. She was about 2 years old when she started hiding. In Sept 2006, we came home one night to find her slumped over and hardly breathing. We took her to an emergency vet and they could not find what was wrong with her. We had to put her...Read the full article
Re: FIP is awfulI'm so sorry for your loss. I just lost my 1-year-old Angel this past Friday--she was a beautiful fluffy black and white long hair with the sweetest personality--I'm reading this site to find out more about how this terrible disease is contracted and spread. It seems every case is different. My Angel looked slightly less spunky last Tuesday night, then stayed in her bed all day Wednesday. I took her to the vet Thursday morning, and she passed away Friday evening--she looked fine Thursday except for the listlessness, and you would not believe the change in 36 hours. FIP really is awful. I wanted to tell you please don't give up the pleasure of having a cat in your lives. There are a lot of them out there that need our love. I'm feeling the loss right now that you have unfortunately had to endure three times in a year. But I know the next time a stray kitten wanders into the parking lot of my office, I'll have another cat. I'm 44 and have had cats all my life--if any of them had this disease they were so old we thought they died of old age. This site calls the disease "rare", but I guess your misfortune was due to having your pets pass it to one another, whereas I've pretty much had one cat at a time and have been spared dealing with this over and over. Angel is the youngest I've ever lost, and she was so sweet I hoped I would have her for a long time. You have my sympathy and encouragement--Donna.
