Stray newly diagnosed with FIV

Post a new topicby countrygritsrt on Thu Oct 11, 2007 9:47 am

We have a stray that I took to the vet for a check up, shots, and spaying. The vet guesses her to be about 3 years old and says she appears very healthy. However she did test positive for FIV I am wondering do I have to keep her confined to strictly indoors? I really don't want to do that. She is not used to it either. We also have a Chinese Crested with a pet door, so she would eventually figure that out anyway. I would prefer to let her in and out as she pleases. We also have an 8 month old, so it would be difficult to keep him and the dog out of her litterbox. Is it possible for her to pass any infections on to the baby or my dog? Please give me some advice! Thank you!
