Introducing FIV - cat to FIV +

Post a new topicby michkatz on Sat Nov 24, 2007 6:17 am

I moved to london last year. I couldn't bring our cat of 10 years, castrated male indoor/outdoor, because of all the quarantine issues. We adopted 2 cats from a private owner, a brother and sister. They are both indoor about 6 months. I took them in to get fixed. They both have temps and are suspected of having FIV The blood test should come back today.

I was planning on bringing my longtime cat companion back with us after our Christmas visit to the states. I wanted to introduce him to the new kittens in a safe confined place (our 2 bedroom flat.) I wanted to make our new cats indoor only because of traffic. My older cat would be as well.

Two things - Is this reasonable to do? should I introduce the older cat?
And.. I want to return to the states. The only requirement is that they not have any diease transmittable to humans. I know FIV is not but what about the secondary infections?

Currently, both kittens are super healthy. The only sign was some bad tooth decay on the boy. I suspect the mother passed it on.
