FIV, Interferon and other preventive stepsHi, I'm about to adopt a 4-5 year old cat who is FIV positive. He is already showing symptoms of inflamed gums and is in some discomfort so the shelter has decided to remove his teeth and will release him to me in the new year.
I am starting to read about the disease, but there is bits of information everywhere and what I need is more comprehensive guidance on what steps to take (medically) to slow the onset of the disease. I do understand the other factors about keeping him calm/unstressed, indoors etc. Here are my questions: 1. I read a bit about Interferon; does anyone have experience with this and FIV or can refer me to good resources/research? 2. Any other suggestions on preventive treatments would also be appreciated. 3. Is it too early to start him on Interferon when he doesn't really have symptoms except for gum inflammation? At what stage should one start? 4. Lastly, there are differing views; the shelter told me that I cannot put a positive with a negative. But I read that it's totally possible. Thanks for your help.
