Adopting a new cat

Post a new topicby jtraag on Tue May 27, 2008 11:20 am

I have a male cat who is about 3 years old and FIV+. My boyfriend and I live together and now he wants a cat of his own. We were both wondering if it is OKAY to adopt another cat? Has anyone done this before and if so, what were the results? Thanks, Jeanine

Its fine to adopt a new cat..just read how FIV is spread, per my vet its spead through bite wound..make sure they don't fight...I have 4 cats 1 is FIV+ and they have lived together for 3 years and the other cats are fine..

I have a cat diagnosed with fiv. I read the virus can live approximately an hour in the air and the only precaution would be to not let the other cats use the same food or water bowls.
My veterinarian instructed me to keep him isolated from my other cats and was very upset when I told her about the hour life span of the virus
