Feline herpesvirus

Post a new topicby Nanadoge on Mon Jan 14, 2008 12:03 am

I adopted 4 cats from the feral cat rescue, 3 I was told were getting over a respiratory infection. Within a week they got worse and I went back to the rescue & got some oral antibotic. within another couple weeks they were doing alot better. Except one my favorite Boots. He is the sweetest cutest little boy. They were 4 months old them. One of his eyes got horrible, I took him to the vet, got medicines then doctored him up for the next 2 months. I Dr his playmate also, but her eye didn't get bad. The other 2 cats were older and didn't get this condition. He got alot better, but now 3 months later he has it again and it's in both eyes. My vet said it might be FHV and it so there wasn't anything that could be done but to Dr the eye with the ointments and give oral antibotics. She also said that I should give him some Lysine-S. Has anyone ever heard of this? Will it help? I don't want him to keep getting sick like this. Is there anything else I can do for them??

Hi, I adopted a 9 year old Persian that ended up with HPV in his eyes pretty bad. The doctor gave me some medication for it and although it took a while to get rid of, it did go away. Now, 9 years later (he is 17 yrs old), the HPV has come back in his right nostril (very inflamed tissue). The Dr. is treating it with antiviral medication and lysine. From my experience with this virus, following the doctors treatment plan and closely watching over the infected areas has made all the difference.

I was given a similar med by veterinarian called Eniyl F. This stuff is wonderful!!! My vet prescribed it during an infection flare up. He said that it helps boost that cat's immune sytem and that some people use it during flare ups others use it daily. I've been using it as soon as I hear or see a nasal "issue" coming on and it has helped everytime. Now, the vet never offered this to me when my cat was a kitten so I would talk to a vet before buying any. That way you get the correct dosage for your cat's age and weight. I now purchase the med thru a site on Amazon at a reasonable price. Another big plus of this med is my cat loves the taste. He goggles it right up. He thinks its a treat.

Hi,

since we have a cat with a pretty bad case of FHV I'm interested in this Eniyl F. I've searched Amazon and googled up and down but cant find anything. Do you have a hint as to where or how to find it? Or can I get in touch with you somehow to ask you? I'd have no issue to post my email here but don't know if the forum gods would accept this :<).

Cheers

We have a few cats who have flare-ups with the herpes virus. Polecat, I researched remedies as well and I came across Enisyl F. So far we have been treating our babies like kids with a cold. I make sure they get plenty of fluids (we use Pedialyte) and we give them Nutrical if they are off their feed. Some of them don't like the supplements so we are looking for alternative treatments. Let us know if the Enisyl F works for you. Sounds like a good thing!

Thanks for the information, Kristi! With the correct name I found it on google right away and should be able to get it. We had tried to mix Lysine in the cat food, but as the stuff tastes horrible, yes, I tried it, the cats would not eat the food once we had sprayed it on :<(. So that Enisyl sounds a lot better. I'll look at the other products, too, which you mentioned.

We have four cats but only one has herpes. We picked her up 3/4 dead four years ago in the woods and had a lot to do to help her survive. She had to undergo surgery on her left eye because the eye lid was too small and so the lashes rubbed on the cornea, which left her blind on that eye. She has herpes really bad, not only flare up but sneezes all the time. We had her treated with antibiotics and even got her nose rinsed, to no avail. Other than that she is healthy, looks and acts like a kitten and is the sweetest and cuddliest little thing. So whatever we can find to help her we'll try. I'll let you know how Enisyl works.

Thanks again!

Sorry, I didn't check this sooner. I'm glad you found some. My first tube came from the vet but now I buy it on Amazon thru EntirelyPets.com. It was the cheapest I could find including price of product and S&H. I paid $20.98 for a 4 pack. They sent along a coupon for my next order. Let me know how your making out.

Thanks xray_beth. I found the product and the store. We hope now that it works as good as everybody says. Sure would be nice to walk through the hallway without a Kleenex in hand :<).

Hi,
I have never heard of Lysine, but Zithromax which is a human drug works if you can get your vet to give it to you, it costs between £8.59 and £11.00. It has to be given for 15 to 20 days.It can reaccure but 3 to 4 days back on Zithromax knocks it out of the system again.
Have you overcome your problem?.If so what did you use?. regards pandg

Hi,
we've been treating our cat with Enisyl-F now for about 8 weeks. She has gotten a lot better but is not cured. She still shows symptoms and sneezes every now and then, but the frequency and amount of snot are a lot less. We did not expect cure, as the medical literature says it is impossible.

However, our vet has found some homoeopathic substance recently, which he offered to try on her. He claims it has cured some cats he treated. He is usually very reasonable and not after a quick $, so we'll try it. I'll report on the outcome of it but it may take some time, as we don't want to hurry it.
Cheers
