Latent Carriers for the virus

Post a new topicby mshortt on Wed Oct 17, 2007 2:42 am

I just found out today that oine of my cats is a "latent carrier" for the herpesvirus. Apparently he is never going to get over it and all I can do is give him eye drops when it flares up. It is managable, but I heard a rumor that unborn babies can be hurt by this. The website says even unborn human babies can be infected. I didn't think this was right, that only pregnant cats can be infected. Is that correct? Does anyone have any advice for someone taking care of a cat in this condition. I have two other cats, but they haven't caught it yet, and I've had them all for quite some time now. Anyone else going through the same thing? I'd love to here what you guys think.

I have a latent carrier also. By this time I guess your getting into the swing of care. My cat seems sick all the time, especially to company. My cat has chronic eye and nasal issues plus severly ulcerated eyes. He won't allow much in the way of washing his face or applying anything to his eyes or nose. So I use Enisyl F. This has worked wonderful for me. My cat loves the taste and it keeps larger flare ups to a minium. My cat lives a happy healthy life. I'm not quite sure how to evaluate his vision cause nothing escapes him. Biggest help in living with a latent carrier is knowing his exact location when a sneezing fit comes on and having Magic Eraser in hand to remove the boogers from the walls.
