Re: HELP, CAT WITH SEVER RHENOTRACHEITISL Lysine can work wonders. (http://www.raysahelian.com/lysine.html) You can buy it and grind it into a powder and fill about a third of a gel capsule with it and butter it and slide it down it throat (you can also buy something that helps give your kitty it's meds). If this is too difficult you can dissolve the capsule in water and use a dropper. Put the drops in front of the teeth and let it diffuse into the mouth as not to get it down the wrong tube and into the lungs. You may also try silver colloidal in the same way. You will need to do this several times a day.
Also if you can get a good kitty vitamin that can help your kitty. Hope your kitty gets well soon. We have taken in many feral kitties and some have had Rhino very badly and this this can help. Also something that can work to help strengthen a kitty is to get colostrum (I use Mt. Capra goat colostrum) and give your kitty about a fourth of a cap at a time several times a day. This helps it's immunity system and also helps in other ways. I have even seen it used and help very crippled kitties to nearly walk and run almost totally normal. I have even given kitties co enzyme q 10 in small amounts. As a pretty good rule things that help people often help animals in much smaller doses. There are exceptions so you want to research on the net before you try new things. You can also ask me as we have been through lots with kitties taking in wild cats with problems. I have run hot water in my bathroom tub to fill the room with steam and then held my kitty with pets and comfort with the door shut and the water turned off as not to scare the cat. I have also held kitties under a towel over steaming water. We have also saved very sick kitties by at least once daily taking a dropper and squeezing silver colloidal or salt water like the "neti pot" treatment up there noses to open very clogged passages. They sneeze and you need to have tissues ready. Your kitty may not like this but it can save it's life so if you really want to save your kitty's life this may really help. Just be as gentle and comforting as possible. I think irrigating the nose with silver colloidal has helped saved the very sickest of kitties. We have done so many things to save kitties that if I think of something else I will let you know. The most important thing we have done to save kitties is to pray for them. The LORD cares about the sparrow and He definately cares about kitties. We also leave old time gospel hymns playing for them and WVCY Christian radio which has the old time music on it. When I couldn't get it in I tried the contemporary Christian music and it just didn't seem to agree with the kitties like the old time Christian music. With feral kitties that you are taming you can really tell the difference in their behavior and calmness when it comes to music. It comforts them and I believe The LORD works through His music. It's been a while since we have treated kitties really sick with Rhino and I remember that we also gave them droppers of water with a little silver colloidal in them several times a day to make sure that they remained hydrated. Again in front of the teeth so that it goes down the right tube. The silver colloidal also keeps them from getting sick if it goes into their lungs at all. Also, if necessary, I would freeze capsule shaped and sized pieces of cat food to shove several down their throat with a little butter to make them slide if they were not eating. It is important to make sure a cat has at least some food down it to keep it from having problems with it's blood sugar dropping. I freeze it because when I "shove" it down it's throat it won't get into the wrong tube but will slide right into the stomach. I don't remember loosing even one kitty from Rhino and some were extremely sick. If you are serious about saving your kitty you may very well be able to but it may take time, love and patience. I hope your kitty gets well by the grace of God and the love you show to it.
Re: HELP, CAT WITH SEVER RHENOTRACHEITISI currently have a little kitten with the same problems. Is there anything in terms of 'social' care that I should be doing? I read that stress exacerbates the problem. I am keeping him in a separate part of the house so that he doesn't infect my other kitten. He has plenty of space, and things to play with, and although I am visiting him regularly, he is not getting as much human company as if he were just wandering about the place. Any tips?
Thanks, Anna. Ps, re prayer - my kitten has had the misfortune of being adopted by atheists... does that mean his chances of survival are lessened?! The Lord surely does work in mysterious ways!
