Feline Herpesvirus and People

Post a new topicby YoshimiE on Tue Feb 03, 2009 4:59 pm

This may sound ridiculous but does anyone know if it's possible for Feline Herpesvirus to pass from the cat to people? I just found out that one of my cats (I have two) may have it. He's got an eye irritation that our vet thinks could be Herpes.

We always wash our hands after handling the cats but I thought I'd check just to be sure. Again I know it sounds ridiculous.

Everything I have read makes a point of saying that feline herpes is not transferable to humans.

Here is a link to one of those articles:

I have a 2 year old cat with calicivirus (prevalent mouth sores) whose mother had feline herpes. I have done quite a bit of research lately trying to find a treatment and have found L-lysine (which is working!!). Many of the papers I have read mention that the virus is not transferable to humans.
