Kittens have eye problems--please help!

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu May 12, 2005 12:10 am

My cat gave birth two weeks ago to three kittens, but I have noticed that two of them have discharge around the eyes. They have all opened their eyes, but at times the two kittens have their eyes closed because of some 'eye crust' sticking their lids together. Can anyone offer some insight as to what this may be? Thank you!

As I look at the date of your post I hope that the kittens are doing better and that your question has been answered. I am no expert by any means but am guessing that they have an upper respiratory infection (severe cold). Did you wash off the crusty stuff with warm water? Have they sneezed or did the Mom sneeze or have the same eye problems?

Have just had a kitty diagnosed with feline herpesvirus, which can be characterized by eye problems, flu-like symptoms, et cetera. The condition is not fatal, but once a cat has it, will always have it. You might want to investigate this possibility.
