Felv symptoms?

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Nov 20, 2005 4:53 pm

i'm very worried about my cat. We brought home a stray kitten last week. It had no sign of sickness except an eye infection. After a week our old cat started to have a similar eye condition and then a high temperature and is now vomiting or trying to vomit.we also let the stray cat share our old cats food bowl and toilet box. Is it true that cats can carry the disease but show no signs of it and still pass it on to others?

It is very true that a cat can carry the FeLV disease and not exhibit any symptoms. The most common manner in which it is spread cat-to-cat is via the saliva due to biting (playing or fighting). My advice to you would be to take separate the cats until you can get them both tested by your veterinarian for the disease. Costs vary, but can be anywhere from $45-$80 dollars for the test alone. The kitten should be tested various times throughout reaching adulthood because a negative at its age now could not be entirely accurate. I hope I have been able to help. :-) Good luck!
