Cat Stroke?Does anyone have any information on strokes in cats. I cant find anything and i want to know if thats what happened to my baby. He was normal and playing.. haveing fun and just being himslef yesterday. A little while later i had to go to the basement to get something and he was laying on his side panting very very heavily, making awful noises. We rushed him to the vet, his hind legs wouldnt work, and he was turning blue because he couldnt get enough air. We had to put him down because they said that he was in so much distress, and that they didnt know what happened, but that he was almost 16 and that it would be better just to let him go. I've had him as long as i can remember and i miss him terribly. I just want any information i can get about it, and i want to know that there was nothing i could have done, or no signs i should have noticed.. thank you.
Re: Cat Stroke? I had a cat for about 17 years and in the last 3 of her life she had 2 strokes. Or, at least what the veterinarian diagnosed as close to a stroke a cat can get. When she had them, she had problems walking, her breathing was erratic, and her "third eyelids" were constantly showing, as if she was half awake all the time. It would take her about a week to get over it, but she never fully recovered after each one. It's hard to say if your cat would have recuperated enough to enjoy life as you both knew it. Either way, I think you did the best thing for you both.

Re: Cat Stroke?i AM CURIOUS AS WELL. I have a 14 year old cat whom suddenly can''t walk. He can move the upper half of his body and drag himself around but he can''t stand or walk. He can push himself into a sitting position but falls back down.. He doesnt seem to be in any pain.. I can hold him and touch his toes and legs and I have moved them around but no reaction. He seems paralyzed from the bottom to his hips. Is this possible? His toes also seem cold.. he is breathing fine and seems to get around on his belly. He is eating and drinking but very little.. I was holding off from taking him to doctors because he has had two other incidents where he couldnt walk for two days or so and I took him to vet and they found nothing wrong. Due to the cost and nothing found before and then After a few days he is okay.
So this time I have waited just a few more days and no improvement. He is on the 4th day of no walking. Any idea as to what might have happened? Can a cat have a stroke?
