feline territorial aggressionHi, does anyone have any suggestions for this problem...
Most of the time eight year old spayed female tolerates three year old female, both indoor pets. Younger cat becomes very agitated when she sees a neighborhood cat in the yard, usually at night when I have neglected to lower the blinds early enough, and since she can't reach them will viciously attack the older cat. This causes hard feelings and distrust, so the animosity can go on for days. I tried giving them both Rescue Remedy and also their favorite treats while they were right next to each other and also catnip which made them somewhat mellow. I sure would like to stop the attacking, though. Our back yard is not fenced in, not that it would make any difference to a cat, right?
Re: feline territorial aggressionI wish I could give you an answer, but I can't because I have the exact same problem. I will keep an eye on your post for answers for both of us.
One of my cats is a 6 year old male who has recently decided he wants to be the boss of the other cats (4) and he "attacks" them all. It started with him attacking only his biological sister then moved on to the youngest male who is a very large 4 year old, then it was on to the 11 year old female and now it has even included the 12 year old male (If I were going to try to take over as the dominant male I would have started with the oldest male). I guess Hooch was testing the waters with the younger cats first. When Hooch goes after one of the other cats (usually just after we turn the lights off at night) I go after him and spray him with water. That usually ends the fight for the night. Maybe that would work for you? Anything is worth a try. I have also started closing the blinds in the evening so Hooch can't see out the windows and get upset by other cats in the yard (there are two that visit often). It really doesn't matter a whole lot because he will hunt his sister down to pick on her. He won't actively search for the other cats, they are just unlucky enough to cross his path at the wrong times. Anyway, good luck and please let me know if someone helps you with your (our) problem. Regards, Dodie
Re: feline territorial aggressionDodie,
Sorry, I just THOUGHT we had a problem! For the nighttime visitor, I have nylon-packed moth balls on the back patio. I have also ordered online a motion activated cat/dog repellant. I forgot about the water bottle; I'll use it if I can react fast enough! Have you considered a tranquilizer for Hooch? They are probably all spayed/neutered? To be continued!
