Repairing ccl in older dogHi!
Trying to make decision on surgery options for ccl on my soon-to-be 11yr old cocker spaniel. Diagnosis has been confirmed by two doctors - complete rupture. I am torn between two procedures and deciding which is best for an older dog. I am not allowing cost to be a factor in my decision. One procedure ...extracapsular repair - using suture to stabilize joint and can be done in our city. The other option the TPLO which we will have to go out-of-state. Logically, I want to do the best procedure possible for him which I have been told is the TPLO. But, in my heart, I want do the best procedure for Bosley. I do not know if the TPLO is the best one for an older dog. It seems soooooo invasive. I just want him to be as pain free as possible. Has anyone tried the extracapsular repair? Would appreciate any input. Karen
Re: Repairing ccl in older dogHi Karen
Actually both proceedures are debatable and nothing out of the two really stand out as being the best. However there is a outfit that is I believe as follows because many times the diagnosis is wrong regarding the amount of tear that is involved. So check this out and see what they have to say and they are darn good and know precisely what to do for your dog for the long run. OK The Veterinarian's name is Dr. Sherman Canapp, DVM,MS,CCRI, Diplomate ACVS Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine - The practice name is Veterinary Orthopedic Sports Medicine Group ( http://www.vosm.com ) VOSM is located at in Annapolis Junction, MD (just a bit south of Baltimore off of I95) The web site is as follows: http://www.vosm.com I hope you get this in time before they wipe this information out. However if they do you can always go to my site at caninedistempercure dot com and I will help you there on this issue. Good luck Daveyo
