Post CCL Surgery - Any advice?

Post a new topicby jenniferk on Wed Jan 07, 2009 12:55 pm

Good morning!

Our 6 year old dog (mixed breed - boxer/pit bull) had CCL surgery on Monday. A lot of what I read was that the recovery time is extremely critical in ensuring the success of the surgery.

I've read a few things, but would welcome any advice from people who have been through this.

Couple of notes:
- Owen is 80 lbs, so I cannot carry him up the stairs (my husband can, but I tend to be home more).
- We have another dog who is a puppy (7 months) and we tried to keep them separated a bit since Brody is very active! He has dog "friends" he can play with, so I planned to send him over on play dates.
- We're going on vacation in 8 weeks, so I'm nervous on timing. The kennel is wonderful and the owner has been in business for about 50 years. I'm sure he has seen it all, but again just nervous on timing.
- We live in NH, so there is a lot of snow/ice. We'll have him on the leash outside, but there is still a risk he will slip.
- He is normally a very active dog and keeping him in 1 spot will be difficult. He doesn't mind a crate, so during "active" times last night in the household, we kept him in the crate.

Thanks so much!

Take your dog with you. Why not?????? Many places cater to dogs. Try the AAA Club.
