Parvo and new dogs

Post a new topicby lsonnek on Mon Aug 24, 2009 10:53 pm

Hi, We adopted a new 3 1/2 old puppy from a shelter. Within two days she was ill. Despite medical treatment all week Suki passed away on the 7th day. We didn't know her very long but she'll be missed. We do have a two year old lab that is fine, as he's had all his vaccinations.

Question is - how soon could we bring in a new puppy or dog? We are still interested in adopting a new dog, but I don't want the chance it will get ill with this awful virus. I'm not getting consistent information from my vet and other resources. I have cleaned the house with bleach and sprayed the areas where Suki passed stool in the backyard. The vet recommended adopting an older puppy with at least two parvo vaccinations.

Any thoughts?

Hi Ison

What happened to you? Parvo is very treatable and the dog can be well again in three days. I have at my site the fast tract to cure parvo problems which is at caninedistempercure dot com.

Sorry to hear of your loss

To answer your question 1 month minimum.

Use bleach and a lot of sunlight.
