Don't know what to do and in a bind...parvo? distemper? flu?My dog is very ill. I feel bad because it is not much I can do.
I am not a vet, but I have had many dogs in my lifetime. Now, the ultimate fear has hit home! My puppy is the sickest dog I have seen. He was fine yesterday up until 6:00 pm (Friday). Around Saturday (today) at 3AM he was to the point where he was dragging his legs and sitting weird. After around 10AM, my pup was wobbly and would only stand after I called his name around six to seven times. Then, he layed down. I gave him some gatorade. He kept down the first 10mls. I gave him another 5 mls within the hour, it stayed down. Again, I gave him 5 mls...this time every ten minutes. He vomited that up. It was pink with red strips but it wasn't blood. It was the orange gatorade. Anyway...I have not attempted to give him any thing else. It has only been a day and the change was so fast. Since the initial onset, I have been an emotional rollercoaster. It is very disturbing. I have been crying and praying and crying and praying. My financial situation at this point will not allow me to take him to the vet. I am sure it is serious. I know the cost for the testing is not expensive, but I know if it is parvo, distemper or gairdia it can be very expensive. I find myself feeling helpless due to both predicaments. My boys and I are in love with this puppy. Jo Jo is his name. He is tan and black. He is a mix between Jack Russel and Chihuhua. I have only had him for two weeks but I love the puppy. I hate to put him down. I'd rather that he rest in peace in my arms. I just don't know what to do as far as not being able to do what is needed. I just want to help him as much as I am able...which at this point is not much (it seems). What would anyone do in my situation?
Re: Don't know what to do and in a bind...parvo? distemper? flu?HI Jo Jom
I am Daveyo one of the experts on Distemper. You need to get one test done and you need to get to VET. I cannot help you without you getting that test done. You have to find out if it has Distemper or Parvo. Signs are indicative that your dog is having Distemper and until that test is done we cannot go any further. Here it is and its very accurate: The most reliable test to confirm distemper, the person needs to do a Brush Border slide/smear of the bladder transitional epithelium of the inside lining from the bladder. Stain with Dif-Quick. These cells ALWAYS have inclusions. So, easy to collect, easy to stain (quick dip) and instantly diagnosed with inclusions in these cells which will stain a beautiful carmine red color and be para nuclear in the cytoplasm of infected cells. About 90% of the bladder cells will be positive for inclusions in the early stages of distemper. This is good for at least the first 21 days from onset of the disease. After this point, it gets harder to detect as the disease progresses further in the stages and the physical clinical signs will become quite obvious. Any Qualified medical person can tell you how to get these cells from the bladder. Use the Urinary catheter. Empty the bladder and flush this with saline and collect some of the last saline. Spin down the saline and remove the cells. Place on slide and dry stain with diff-quick. A Very common stain used by most medics or lab people who use medical microscopy. Everyone? I should hope so. Very fast, very cheap, very accurate for Dx of distemper and the results can be seen in about 30 minutes. Rarely inclusions can be seen in the red cells. I have never seen inclusions in the conjunctiva. An IFA test of the conjunctiva to test for inclusions is available. Don’t wait for test results to come back. Time is of the essence. Wait for the test results after treating!!!!!. If wrong no adverse reactions if right you are ahead of the game for stopping the distemper virus. If NEGATIVE> then either kennel cough or respiratory Herpes or Toxoplasmosis. This test can all be done inside the VET Clinic with no problems and also no danger to anyone in or out of the same area. A very relative safe technique. To date, this test has never failed for us and is extremely very accurate and saves time in making the right diagnosis. The VET can also check for Parvo from the stool and use the Elisia Test kit. What you are going to do is rule out one or two of these diseases. The smear test splits Respiratory Herpes from Distemper. The parvo is a test by itself. If any of the two main tests come out negative, then its Respiratory Herpes. If Distemper shows up on the test you can treat and cure your dog quickly and the cure is in 24 hours. The Parvo can show either negative or positive. If positive there is a very good treatment from my site and it can cure your dog in less than 3 days. If you have Distemper, you need to get NDV. Yes that is the cure for this specific disease. You will need to get into my site at caninedistemper dot proboards dot com and register there and sign in. From there you will find the NDV sources, and you can have it shipped out to you quickly. Also at my site there is a VET locator who will do the treatment for you and have it all done in one day. The rest of my site has a lot of very good information and it can educate you as well of all the diseases and dangers dogs have daily. If you don't have the money try to work out a payment plan with the VET. There is also insurance plans to help you treat your dog and also non profit organizations that can help give you some financing and funds to pay for the treatments. If you do not get to a VET your dog will end up dead very soon. I understand your in Kentucky is this correct???? I have been making plans myself to move to Kentucky in the near future within the next 18 months or so and will be leaving Thailand for good. It will be nice to return back home. Do get to my site if possible and hopefully I can see you there. Daveyo
