pitbull ichy, oozy sores all over loosing hair

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Oct 31, 2005 4:20 pm

My pitbull puppy has a bad looking skin condition. He's the runt of the litter and had a milder case when we got him and now there is a completely bald spot on the top of his head, the hair falling off in patches where the sores seemed to originate. The skin on the bald spot looks to be better than when it had hair. Considering the puppy's being the runt, he still seems especially weak and nervous, but loves to play with his siblings. We're very worried about the pup and don't know what to do.

you should get him checked out by a vet try aloe vera gel. that is very soothing .
He could have worms. You should get him checked out. or call a vet and describe everything. Even good reliable pet stores are helpful.

I'm hoping at this point you've solved the problem, but IF not, it sounds like your puppy may have skin mange. It's been VERY common this year in dogs of all ages, and considering your puppy was the runt, he may have a weaker immune system which can be a factor with mange.
You may want to get a skin scrape test done on him to verify. It IS a fixable problem. I've had 2 dogs with it, and the mange (loss of hair) will usually have a skin infection accompanying it (sores).
Wishing you and your puppy luck.
