Drop Dead

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Dec 19, 2005 3:53 am

My dog, a healthy Dobberman, seemed to be very normal until this morning. He simpply wobbled and dropped dead. What could be the cause? It was kept inside its cage almost all its life. What could be the cause?

Hello,
I am very sorry to hear about your Doberman. Sudden death in Dobermans is often caused by cardiomyopathy. Also it could have been a hemagioma that ruptured.
Hope this helps.
Lisa

I have to agree with the other person that posted. Cardio can take these wonderful dogs (I am also a doberman owner who lost my last one to wobblers last christmas) very quickly without any indication. A friend of mine lost her last dobe right after Christmast last year from Cardio, died right in her arms, and she was at a loss as to the reasons, just as you are. It wasn't your fault, and usually it's so fast, there isn't anything you can do.
I am so sorry for your loss.

We lost our wonderful Dobe from cardiomyopathy 2 years ago, too. Eventually, they develop a lethal heart rhythym and can drop dead literally while walking around. Our dog was just sitting outside, and 2 seconds later was dead.
He had been diagnosed 6 weeks previously and was on meds. We knew he was in a potentially lethal rhythym but there was nothing that could be done.

It's a horrible, quick killer of Dobes. I'm sorry for your loss.
