Post a new topicby lyttlefish on Sat Oct 20, 2007 7:55 pm

I live in a town in Northern China..there are no vets available. I was given a 1 month old pug puppy 5 days ago..4 days ago he started to have a little yellow discharge from his nose and a little discharge from his eye..then for one day he did not eat..and just lay around..now he runs around, eats his food but has a cough..he still has the discharge..and likes to sleep a lot...he has regular stool and no vomiting....once again..there are no animal doctors here..can anyone assist me in this delemia?
Thank you

yes - get that Newcastles Disease Virus Vaccine pronto from your nearest Agriculture Animal Control center in China. You must inject that dog based on its weight. 0.1cc for every 2.2 kg. So weigh the dog first. NDV must be injected into the blood stream so find yourself some nurse or human doctor nearby you, and bring the Vaccine and the dog there. Tell them to give your dog the NDV ASAP now.

Wait any longer it will begin to have secondary signs, and then there may be more you have to do. If you catch it in the window, the cure takes 12-48 hours. Then wait 3 days, and do a blood test for WBC count. If it is low, then you have to do the Cerebral Spinal Tap to test that spinal fluid for any distemper antibodies. If positive, then you have to inject the NDV into the spinal canal with another spinal tap of 0.1 or 0.2 cc mixed with 0.2cc saline solution. Remember what you take out has to be the same amount being put back in. So if you take out 0.5, discard 0.1 of fluid and then fill the rest with the NDV and saline solution. Understand me it has to be the same amount put back in. Either to much or too little the dog will die. Cerebral fluid is very sensitive to how much is in that canal. After this injection the dog will go into shock, treat with IV fluids and the shock. After about an hour when the dog stands up, then you can take it home. Cure is in 12 hours, and any damage on the dog will be repaired on its own.

Once the dog gets neurological chewing gum show time, its too late, put the dog to sleep.

Good luck.
