Incubation period for Canine Distemper Viurs

Post a new topicby daniel on Thu Sep 20, 2007 2:48 pm

My puppy Rottweiler should be infected with CDV but has no symptoms since weeks.

Need to know the exact incubation period and the number of weeks from which an infected dog can no longer transmit the virus (started frmom the day of full symptoms).

I also wish to know more of how accurate the test are, I heard of fals negative and fals positive tests.

Canine Distemper virus does not incubate. It goes full steam. Since you posted this on September 20th, I would suspect your dog is heading toward the latter stages of this disease by now.

Please post back here telling me what your status of the dog is currently. How are the stools of the dog, is it eating and drinking, is it hiding a lot from you (withdrawal) etc.

I need to advise you if you have not reached the neurological stage you can still save your dog.

Hurry and respond back.

actually it is extremely hard to notice the first symptoms of canine distemper, 'Early symptoms include fever, loss of appetite, and mild eye inflammation that may only last a day or two.'
So you have to catch it really quickly.

you got that right on the money Pinkpoodle. It is very hard to spot on the dog unless your extremely very alert to your animal. Couldn't have said it better myself. After that the dogs still lose their appetite, and go into withdrawal and want to hide kind of personality, and do watch the stools of the dog. If it changes to a soupy kind of stool, watch those eyes and check the pads for changes. If those symptoms appear, then it is time to get that NDV into that dog quickly. From that point on, you either save your dog or watch this virus destroy your dog literally bit by bit.

Hi Daveyo, my dog has a CDV. You have a vet who treated CDV with NDV La Sota strain. My vets (one is traditional vet one is holistic vet) did not want to do that due to liability. I also have some fellow nurses but they also did not want to inject NDV. Where does your vet live? I live in Southern CA. Thanks

You have to find someone who can do the injection for you or you learn as quick as you can and do it yourself. You have to find the NDV ASAP . You will get two bottles. One is the NDV and the other is the Saline solution of which you extract based on the weight of the dog, and then put it inside the NDV, shake it and then use another needle and take out the required amount. Then you put it in the dog.

Yes you will encounter many who will resist doing this because of the legal liability, so these type of vets simply watch the animals die in front of their faces.

Please find that NDV and find someone who knows needles and find that blood vein. Follow my instructions that I posted here. 0.1cc for every pound of dogs weight. If between add another 0.1cc of NDV.

Keep posting and let me know. The dog is running out of time.

You can contact Doctor Sears at Antidistemper@aol.com He is in Hawaii right now, and should be contacting me in a few days. Write to him and tell him of your problem. He has a practice in Lancaster California, and it is Sears Vetininary Hospital. You should be able to find it in the phone book. His assistants there can help you immediately.

Yesterday my 11 lb cocker was diagnosed with distemper. I am so sadden with the news. My pup was adopted at a shelter. He is playing with his ball occassionally. He will eat catfood, but he doesnt drink water well. I am using a syringe to give him pedialyte. The vet also told me to give him expectorant, antihystamine. I am giving him childrens mucinex (expectorant) and childrens robitussin. I am so concerned. I love my dog he is wonderful! My vet said we caught it in the early stages, he gave him a 50% chance. I searched on the internet trying to find something that would give me hope that he doesnt have distemper, I guess denial is part of the fear of possibly losing someone you love. Any tips on caring for my wonderful cocker during this time?

Hi, first I would like to know why are giving your dog all that other JUNK???? Secondly, how did you get the dog diagnosed???

First thing to do is get a thermometer and insert it into the anus of the dog and and hold it there for one minute. Take a look at it and tell me what the reading is. To have Distemper your cocker will be running a fever of around 105 deg F. Yes the dog will not eat, SO STOP GIVING IT CAT FOOD. Your making it worse. The dog will have a runny nose, and discharge from its eyes, and the stool will be soupy, and also go into a withdrawal and try to hide etc. Feel the dog to see if it is hot at the ears.

So, the very best test for rapidly diagnosing ACUTE distemper is to do what is called a bush border smear of the cells of the inside lining of the bladder. These cells ALWAYS have inclusions. So, easy to collect, easy to stain (quick dip) and instantly diagnosed with inclusions in these cells. If present then Distemper. If not then something else.

If confirmed please look under the topic of Canine Distemper, and look for a title called FOR ANY CASES OF CONFIRMED DISTEMPER and it was posted on October 29th. Follow the instructions given in that topic and your dog will be OK

You have to find Newcastles Disease Virus Vaccine. Go to any agriculture store or shop or to some Government Animal Control Center that deals for farmers especially chickens. There you will find it and get yourself 3 bottles please. KEEP IT COLD UNTIL TIME TO USE IT. It is not expensive at all. Then your in business. The rest follow my instructions as given.

DO THIS NOW AND DO NOT WAIT ANY LONGER. Then go back to the Vet, give him that vaccine and weigh the dog. The dosage is 0.1cc NDV for every pound or 2.2 kg. If between the weights give an additional 0.1 cc of NDV. Have your VET find the blood vein, insert the needle into the vein draw it back to make sure you see blood going into the syringe and then inject. Cure is in 48 hours.

Good luck.

the vet used a thermometer on my cocker and told me he had distemper. He also gave me some pills to give him...the vet also told me to give him the cat food,he also told me to give him all the other stuff, I am confused about what my vet says versus what you are telling me, i thought it was good for my dog to eat and drink, why shouldnt he eat?
