Help.My Chow chow Spitz has distemper.but, could be anythng eHi i live here in the philippines, and my almost 3month old puppy is having these symptoms:
twitching on his back left leg thickening (but not very thick) of paws eye discharge but it's on moderate degree Brown to Reddish brown color of urine No other symptoms that i know of or notice as of now. The vet diagnosed him of having distemper but did not examine his blood or anything, he just looked at his symptoms and that's it. He is not coughing nor sneezing, i mean he is sneezing at times but it is rare, he does that when he smells something bad. He has his appetite thank God, and seems to be fighting whatever causing him pain. Is this case likely to be distemper? Does the urine color have to do anything with his distemper or does it suggest other disease? I am so worried about him . How much does Newcastle Disease costs? I'm short of funds as of now since two of my cousins were bitten by him and im shouldering their vaccines. They were not exactly bitten but the teeth scratched through their skin while they are playbiting with the puppy (which I strictly said not to do). But well, kids are no less than stubborn than puppies. If i only have funds i'll take him to every vet i know. *sigh* As of now he is still quite strong, he walks, he sometimes tries to run to get food, but his energy is down much, he was so full of energy before :(. As i've said he seems to be fighting it, very brave baby. I hope somebody can help me. For now he is taking his antibiotic and vitamins for his nervous system, it's neurobion..His antibiotic is culmoc.
Re: Help.My Chow chow Spitz has distemper.but, could be anythng eTo add details:
When i bought him, he is not vaccinated, I had him vaccinated as soon as possible, for rabies and 5in1 shot. and then 2 weeks later for this booster, and now that he is about to go for his last booster this year for his 5in1 shot he showed these symptoms. I really don't know, could it be anything else? Or maybe he was exposed to distemper virus prior his shot. or prior to his booster? Somebody help.
Re: Help.My Chow chow Spitz has distemper.but, could be anythng eYour dog is showing all the classic signs of Distemper. To be absolutely sure you need to do a brush border smear of the bladder to confirm which is cheap and quick and very accurate to find out if the animal has distemper. Here it is>
The very best test for rapidly diagnosing ACUTE distemper is to do what is called a brush border smear of the cells of the inside lining of the bladder. These cells ALWAYS have inclusions. So, easy to collect, easy to stain (quick dip) and instantly diagnosed with inclusions in these cells which are carmine red and para nuclear. Any medical person can tell you how to get cells from the bladder. Urinary catheter. Empty bladder flush with saline and collect some of the last saline. Spin down the saline and remove the cells. Place on slide and dry stain with diff-quick. Very common stain used by most medics or lab people who use medical microscopy. Everyone? I should hope so. Very fast, very cheap, very accurate for Dx of distemper. If present then Distemper. If negative then either kennel cough or respiratory Herpes or Toxoplasmosis. Once determine since your in the Philippines you may want to call Dr. Loubinar. To do this you have to register at my site at [moderator note: website address has been removed] to get that information. Also at the same time you can find everything you need to know about this disease. So please register and make copies and give to your vet. As of the scratches etc. don't worry if the kids already had their measles. If not well they will get the measles now. Also keep any adults not having any previous measles or shots away. They will get it and it is quite painful as an adult. You have to understand this disease. So please study it a bit on my site. The medical protocol given is the correct medical procedure to cure the animal of this disease. Also you need to find a very experienced VET to administer the NDV-CSF tap. Dr. Loubinar is one of them. He is familar of this disease and does talk to me every now and then and knows all about it and does have NDV himself. However depending on your location it might be a travel for you to go to him but it is worth it as it can save the dog completely. Keep posting and let me know. Daveyo

Re: Help.My Chow chow Spitz has distemper.but, could be anythng eHi, I've talk to a vet and she has this Distemper kit to diagnose distemper, but i haven't ask her about brush border smear of bladder, also, it may be too painful for my baby, is it?
Is distemper kit (the one she's taking about) accurate enough to diagnose my puppy? If it is, i'll subject him right away and if he is positive, i hope to contact Dr. Loubinar soon. Thank you!
Re: Help.My Chow chow Spitz has distemper.but, could be anythng eThe brush border smear test as I gave you is the only test that is accurate and its 100%. Has never failed. No it is not painful if done right and if the VET knows what they are doing..
