HELP!!

Post a new topicby lindalam21 on Tue Nov 27, 2007 11:02 pm

I am not sure if Canine Distemper is the cause of my Pomeranian to change so quickly.

Anyways, 2 days ago my mother took my Pomeranian out to the back to go to the bathroom like she usually does. According to my mother when she came back inside is when the shaking and yelping has started. They took her to my room while I was still asleep and here is my dog shaking. Ever since this has happened my dog has been very scared and is not her normal self. As you probably know pomeranians are very hyper playful dogs. My dog was just that, she was always jumping around happy and she is one to never ever stay still. Now she won't leave my side she just wants to sit in my lap and stay there and sleep. It almost seems like she is depressed. I also noticed that she has been randomly looking up and around like she sees a ghost(as weird as that sounds). She also just turned 1 years old yesterday and she just got fixed. Yesterday, we took her to the Vet and had her stitches taken out. I told him what was going on and he tested her urine and her temperature. He said it was all normal. SO, I thought everything would be ok. Today I took her out to the bathroom in front of the house. She was anixous to go out and she ran like she normally does, she went to the bathroom. All of the sudden I tried to get her back in the house and she would not move. Like she refused to go back in. I had to pick her up to take her in the house. Later that night my family was concerned and my brother talked about her being scared of ghost, so my dad yelled that the ghosts would leave the house(as he was playing around) and randomly my dog was constantly barking and growling once he did that. After that she was scared to come to me. This really hurts me because I love her to death and I don't know whats wrong. It seems like no one can help and answer my questions. Please Please Please someone help me! I love her so much as does my family. We want her back to normal to her playful hyper joyful self.

OK listen up. First question is (and I believe) has your dog gotten all the necessary vaccination shots and up to date???? or did your dog just got some vaccination shots????

It has been well known that getting full shot doses, it causes reactions to dogs, and depression. Giving 1/2 dose shots is a bit better and wait 12 days and then give the other half shot. Small animals do not have a good tolerance to these shots. Even Doxies are the same.

Secondly your vet did some tests indicating it is normal.

Dogs do see things that humans do not see. Yes it is possible that they can see a ghost but we cannot see it as you describe here. They have very good hearing and the eyesight of dogs very sharp. Dogs cannot see color. They only see black and white , like the old time T.V's had in the early years.

From the sound of this, as you have described you need to be patient and not cause a ruckus around the dog. Right now it is confused of what it is seeing.

First check the dog if it can hear you. Then check to see if the dog can see objects moving around. You can do this in the front of your dog, and test the side vision as well as the top and bottom. If the dog can see it will turn its head. Do the movement slowly coming in from the blind side of the dog. You can do all this yourself.

If these simple tests pass with flying colors, then you need to be gentle to the dog and stay with your dog. When it goes to the bathroom, carry the dog to the area, stand around it and softly call it to go back inside. Keep the doors open when the dog goes to the bathroom. Something inside there must have freaked your dog out.

Pay attention to what the dog is looking at while it barks.

Mine does the same here, and sometimes they bark at the door for no apparent reason, and all I see is the door in front of me. I usually take them and hold them and talk to them about the door. Yes they continue to look at the door but later on they relax. It happens on occassion.

Not into psychic theorys, but again animals can hear things we cannot hear, see things we cannot see, and they do have a sense of knowing when there is danger and can even tell anything just by hearing your voice.

Be patient, and give the dog good attention.

None of this I believe has anything to do with Distemper. Unless your dog never got the shots. I am assuming that you did give it the shots in timely manner, and it is possible your dog had the shots again for their yearly vaccination. Do not know, since you not say here.

Keep posting.
