English Bulldog acting strange...opinions pleaseWe boarded our 18 month old English Bulldog at a different kennel than we normally use. This kennel kept the dogs outside in big pens in order to have some exercise, and then brought them in at night.
He was there for 3 days. When we picked him up, he was very lethargic. He slept alot, and the next day, he could barely move. We thought it was because he wasn't really used to being outside, and that he was just wiped out. However, he seemed to have a fever, and his eyes were red. He also started having a discharge from his nose, and just a little from his eyes. Yesterday, day 5 after picking him up from the kennel, he started coughing a bit. He has vomited a few times after drinking his water (which isn't unusual for him sometimes), but hasn't had any diarea. His stools have been firm. The other strange thing is that we gave him a bone the night he came back and he started growling when my 5 year old son reached for it. He has NEVER shown any signs of being territorial or aggressive in any way. I have always put my hand in his food from time to time so that he will never show those signs of agression with my kids if they accidently get near his food. When I tried to pet him and put my hand on the bone, he did the same to me. Then, yesterday, he nipped at my son on his arm, twice, when my son went to pick up a toy (not the dogs toy). The second time, the skin was broken a little on my son's arm and bled a little. He didn't growl or anything, and this has NEVER happened before, and I am very upset. I don't know if this is because he is grumpy b/c he is not feeling well...I should probably take him to the vet...any thoughts? Thanks, Amy
Re: English Bulldog acting strange...opinions pleaseGet your dog to a vet. Have the VET do a blood test to see what the results are and if any infections came about.
Is the dog fully vaccinated???? When was the last shots????? Just wondering if your dog was also abused from that kennel place. It does happen. The way your describing it here is strange and the sickness of the dog is hard to pin down. I need more information. Can you provide it?????
Re: English Bulldog acting strange...opinions pleaseHi,
The dog is fully vaccinated and up to date with these shots...only due for his Rabies at the end of January... The owner of the kennel has an English Bulldog himself and appeared to really like Chubbs, gave him alot of attention when we arrived... Chubbs is doing better, but still has the boogies coming out of his nose...has more energy than he did before...but, when I went to get something out of his mouth yesterday that he shouldn't have had, he dropped it but went after me a bit trying to nip...he never has done this before this kennel visit. I am taking him to the vet on Wed for a check up. Thanks...
Re: English Bulldog acting strange...opinions pleaseGood get the checkup and don't worry of about the nip attempt by the dog. Natural, because it thought it was his toy or bone. Common.
Will wait for your VET checkup and get the Blood test done and that Brush border smear done OK. Rabies Oh boy, guard that dog until it gets those shots. There is NO CURE for Rabies. Understand.
