DIFFERENCES BETWEEN KENNEL COUGH, DISTEMPER AND HERPESFolks here is some information to help you determine what is the difference between Kennel Cough and Canine Distemper and Canine Herpes.
Kennel cough RARELY has any temperature or fever readings. If any it is very low up to 103.0 deg F. Also it DOES NOT CAUSE Pneumonia only in extreme rare cases. Kennel Cough causes upper respiratory problems ragged breathing, and throat dryness and hard hacking type of cough that does not stop. Canine Distemper ALWAYS has High Fever from 104 to 106 deg F and causes BACTERIAL PNEUMONIA. If you miss the temp readings have the dog stand and do a couple quick hard taps on the side of its chest. If the dog coughs right after, then it has Pneumonia. To confirm Distemper do the bladder quick stain dip test. Canine Herpes ALWAYS causes Pneumonia and has a little fever between 103 to 104.5 deg F. The difference between Herpes and Distemper is the temperature readings so to distinguish between the two that bladder quick dip stain test is needed to be done regarding Distemper suspect.
