CANINE DISTEMPER

Post a new topicby dogmom on Wed Nov 05, 2008 6:50 pm

On 10-21-08 i picked up a stray off of the road -- he was severely underweight but very sweet -
turned out he had distemper and after 9 days we euthanized him.

On 10-21-08 my vet came to my home and vaccinated my 12 dogs --- all healthy rescues that have been with me from 4 to 12 years.

11-4-08 my 6 y/o Shitzhu (sp?) exhibited symptoms of conjunctivitis -- the only other abnormality that i have noticed is he seems to eat his food by using his tongue against the roof of his mouth in almost a sucking motion rather than chewing it. I have not noticed any temp spikes, or anorexia today.

I would have thought from the time of being vaccinated to today, he would have built some immunity.
I hoping that it is just conjunctivitis -- i started him on a low dose of Prednisone and high doses of vitamin C, E and an antiviral - Gan Mao Ling.

I have noticed Davidyo has mentioned NDV - where in the world would i obtain this product and suspect that if i mention it to any of the vets, they will be clueless. I can access the UF Vet school
and imagine it would be the infectious disease dept of same.
My other question is regarding DY's background and experience with this treatment--

Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi I am Daveyo

I am currently in USA talking to researchers etc and others in regards to the topic of the cure that has been found.

NDV is Newcastles Disease Virus Vaccine and the most common is the LaSorta Strain.

You can find this vaccine at any agricultural Poultry Store or some chicken farmer can lead you to their source since they need it for the chickens.

As to me and of who I am, I let others judge me. Ask Pip or some others.

Talk to you later

Hi Dave YO--

You last sentence gave me my first smile the last few days -- I only meant that you are very obviously medically inclined--
I have been frantically calling the feed stores in this area (which is a rural area with many farmers)
They act as though they do not have a clue -- i have been searching on line as well and found one company that carries the correct NDV (i have copied all of the protocols) but can only be contacted by email -- i can give the NDV to my dog -- should not be too different from humans -- but i am fighting time here --
I am not giving up and will even drive where ever or pay to have it sent overnight --

Do you think my other dogs are out of the woods? the time frames are - brought home the stray 10-21-08 - he began exhibiting signs of illness on 10-23 or 10-24-08-- took him to the vet on 10-25-08 got the dx and vaccinated all of my pets the same day.
My vet thinks that there is a possibility that he picked up the conjunctivitis & may be okay with regard to full blown distemper??? His activity level is always so low that it is hard to judge if he is "lethargic" appetite okay -- he is sneezing and was chewing oddly but that seems to have resolved...

I so appreciate the time and effort as i see you have responded to numerous people and provided support and information.

I am willing to drive, fly or go anywhere to get Duncan treated...

Thanks and good luck with your project -- do not know why more vets do not know about this .. what a horrible death and loss if it can be avoided.

Re: CANINE DISTEMPER-NEED INFO REG DILUTING NDV

Post a new topicby dogmom on Thu Nov 13, 2008 12:44 pm

HI --
I am having difficulty accessing the website that has the protocol for diluting the vaccine
I ordered the NDV LaSota strain it is LIVE -- is this an issue?

Also need to know what to use to dilute -- these are 1,000 dose bottles --

is there any chance of a reaction at the time of the dosing? Would a dose of Decadron on hand be beneficial?

My vet would not agree to do the body procedure as she owns parrots ........................
Would the body fluids from the patient carry the virus that could potentially infect poultry or parrots?

A friend who is a vet tech has agreed to assist me with the body treatment - if successful, i will work to find someone to address the CSF

Any help regarding these questions will be GREATLY appreciated, i would like to give him the procedure tonight

THANKS

I am now back in my office in thailand. Could you please give me the latest update of your dogs condition.

NDV comes in dry form. The diluent is basically a solution of pure H2O. Do not use this for the CSF tap, use Saline instead which will not cause a shock from the dog. The body is OK for the diluent. A 1,000 diluent vial is OK and enough.

As to the other question of it spreading, no. This particular virus only affects dogs that are not vaccinated and yes it will spread since the virus is an airborne type virus. So make sure that there are no unvaccinated dogs nearby the infected dog. Sound good???

Will wait word from you.
