Beloved Dog Fallen ill

Post a new topicby christinevogel on Thu Oct 18, 2007 2:04 am

Pixar was supposedly vaccinated for distemper However I did not have it done myself. He is 2 yrs old and a Rott/Queensland mix. Very beautiful. Very Big. We noticed he was not himself when we returned home Sunday evening after a one day trip. No signs of vomit or dirrehea were present. He was just lethargic and looked sick. Monday he was taken to the vet. They ruled out Parvo and thought it could be distemper I can not afford the tests to be definitive. He has no fever. He has no appetite. A very labored breathing. He breathes out of his nose in a very forced way, or out of his mouth like he is hot. His nose and lips are cold to the touch. He can barely walk. And has been going into the bathtub to lie down and wet himself. I love this dog. I have been forcefeeding him Pedalyte every half hour and giving him aspirin. Is there anything else I could do? I don't want to give up on him and I don't want him to suffer. The vet would not give advice because he was not able to run the tests.

You may find additional information in the "Coping with Canine Distemper", section of this website where website visitors have written stories about dealing with distemper. Here is the link:

We wish you and Pixar the best.

Hold it - your dog has Pneumonia. Do not get that dog wet at all. Treat for the lung infection with Baytril 0.5cc and Penicillin G of 1.0 cc - two times a day for 7 days.

Easy way for you to tell yourself. Have the dog stand and tap a bit hard on the side of the dog at the rib cage area. If the dog coughs after you tap it twice rapidly, it is confirmed Pneumonia. OK

Do it now.

God helps us about the dum dum vets.
