Re: Thunders storyHi Nancy
First of all pardon me, but that VET assistant should be fired. Never give a vaccination shot to a sick animal. Secondly please do the following right away and find someone who is qualified. The most reliable test to confirm distemper, the person needs to do a Brush Border slide/smear of the bladder transitional epithelium of the inside lining from the bladder. Stain with Dif-Quick. These cells ALWAYS have inclusions. So, easy to collect, easy to stain (quick dip) and instantly diagnosed with inclusions in these cells which will stain a beautiful carmine red color and para nuclear in the cytoplasm of infected cells. About 90% of the bladder cells will be positive for inclusions in the early stages of distemper. This is good for at least the first 21 days from onset of the disease. After this point, it gets harder to detect as the disease progresses further in the stages and the physical clinical signs will become quite obvious. Any Qualified medical person can tell you how to get these cells from the bladder. Use the Urinary catheter. Empty the bladder and flush this with saline and collect some of the last saline. Spin down the saline and remove the cells. Place on slide and dry stain with diff-quick. Very common stain used by most medics or lab people who use medical microscopy. Everyone? I should hope so. Very fast, very cheap, very accurate for Dx of distemper and the results can be seen in about 30 minutes. Rarely inclusions can be seen in the red cells. I have never seen inclusions in the conjunctiva. An IFA test of the conjunctiva to test for inclusions is available. Don’t wait for test results to come back. Time is of the essence. Wait for the test results after treating!!!!!. If wrong no adverse reactions if right you are ahead of the game for stopping the distemper virus. If NEGATIVE> then either kennel cough or respiratory Herpes or Toxoplasmosis. This test can all be done inside the VET Clinic with no problems and also no danger to anyone in or out of the same area. A very relative safe technique. To date, this test has never failed for us and is extremely very accurate and saves time in making the right diagnosis. I am Daveyo one of the experts on this disease and you can also find me at caninedistemper dot proboards dot com and in that site you can read up on a wealth of information that would be beneficial in the long run. Also there is a subject pertaining to vaccinations and if you follow that your pet will do just fine. So get that test done and if you care to, please report back to me either way here or at my site. Hopefully we can catch this inside the 6 day window. Daveyo
about distemperRecently March29,2009 my one year old shihtzu name kiray was diagnose for distemper, she was in a bad shape..having cough, convulsion, running nose and badly sneezing and her eyes have thick mucus with red eyes, and the worse part is her footpads is flaky and hard and at the same time her fever is high.My vet have explained to me that distemper has no cure.My heart breaks and i started to cry,i am not ready to let go my shihtzu for she is some kind of special to me.My vet put her on antibiotic for 2weeks,anti viral for 2 weeks, put some cream for her eyes, paracetamol for her fever, and herbal medicine for her cough, and at the sametime, boost her up with multivitamin,vitamainC1000mg, calcium lactate and B12.Kiray lost her appetite so she was Dextrose for 2days, and introduce her some table food in order to regain her appetite.she was almost in her dying stage where she is weak and start to shout like someone, step on her and her front leg start to twich. My vet give her dilantin for her nerve.I am very sad, seeing kiray no strenght at all despite of all the supportived medicine.so i start searching on the net almost 24hours,looking for something to help kiray's case, for about one week of my searching, finally i found Mr Daveyo site telling about distemper.Right after reading the article about distemper, Vets always says, there is no cure,
that is too bad, because there is a cure, NEWCASTLES DISEASE VIRUS.I immediately print out the article and told my Vet since there's no choice for my kiray,i strongly insist my vet, that i want to apply what i have read in the article from Mr Daveyo advise on the site.i also contacted Mr Daveyo thru email and he gave me a person to contact here in philippines who is Dr.Loubinar.I bypass the CSFT for no one dare to perform , so what i did is to ask my vet to check the CBC of my kiray and from the reading of my kiray's blood result, my vet immediately inject my shihtzu thru her bloodstream the NEWCASTLES DISEASE VIRUS. and from there, my kiray seems improving, she had her appetite, she start barking though her front leg still twitching but she is slowly improving. theres no more cough, her footpad is soften as in normal, no more red eyes, and the good thing is no more shouting like someone step on her though, she is still crying softly, once i a while.but she walks alright like in normal.i would like to thanks Mr Daveyo, for sharing his knowledge about distemper, without him,i think my kiray won't survived. Now kiray is out of danger, while we still give her vitaminC1000mg,multivitamin.calcium lactate,B12and dilantin.these are all the mentainance to boost up kiray's immune system.Once again, thank you very much Mr Daveyo for the help you extent to us and May God Bless You, shirley
