Puppy

4 weeks ago my husband and I purchased a Siberian Husky from a pet store. She was 8 weeks old when we got her. She seemed to be doing fine and a very smart puppy. We noticed she was having diarrhea a lot. We took her into the vet and got her 9-11 week routine shots. Everything seemed fine they put her on Metronidazole which didn’t work. We took in a stool sample the next week and that came up nothing so he put her on Centrine and Albon. Later that evening she started to act very weird.

Hi I am Daveyo

From your description of the problem your dog is having it has Canine Distemper You can cure your dog the body of this disease which has to be done first. Secondly you also can get the VET to do the CSF tap and give 0.2cc of NDV since it started its seizures. What this will do is stop the progression of the virus causing the seizures and do not give it Valium. It will need to have Phenobartital of 8.125 twice a day for one week and once a day for the next week and from then on give as needed like once every 2-3 days until the seizures begin to abate.

The method used by your VET was all wrong. Your very late in the stage, given the fact the dog is 8 weeks when you got the dog, which should have had some maternal antibodies against the disease. Usually dogs begin to lose the protection by week 10. I suspect the dog got infected from the place you got it, so I now estimate your probably in the last stages of this disease which is usually fatal, but with the NDV you can save your dog.

You need to do this now and have the VET follow all the instructions that I have posted here under the tope Canine Distemper peer to peer and the title is For Confirmed Cases of Distemper (Revised Posting) The reason I have mention an extra 0.1cc of the NDV is because of the current condition of the dog already having the seizures. So that vet will need to remove 0.6cc of spinal fluid, discard 0.4cc of that fluid leaving 0.2cc of the csf and add 0.2cc of NDV and your vet will need 0.2cc of saline to flush the needle of any NDV left in the hub. Before doing this the Vet has to give it antishock meds and have the dog sleeping so it not move when he does this procedure. It must be inserted in the Foramen Magnum at the bottom base of the skull where the cord stem resides.

The body injection is done at the blood vein of the fron leg of the dog and it is based on the weight of the dog. 0.1cc for every pound or 2.2kg. weigh the do. then calculate from there. If between then add another 0.1cc of NDV to it. You can find the NDV at any poultry agriculture store. Also hit the phone books to locate the nearest place. based on the weight of the dog you need to get those vials plus one extra one for the tap procedure.

Cure in the body is 48 hours and the tap the NDV will cover the entire CNS in 36 hours.

If you do this fast enough you have a chance. Otherwise your dog will die in an estimated 10 days given the fact it has started the seizures already.

The quickest way to confirm if you want is to do the following and I doubt the VET due to his lack of education will understand this but all VETS should. Here it is.

The very best test for rapidly diagnosing ACUTE distemper is to do what is called a brush border smear of the cells of the inside lining of the bladder. These cells ALWAYS have inclusions. So, easy to collect, easy to stain (quick dip) and instantly diagnosed with inclusions in these cells.

Any medical person can tell you how to get cells from the bladder. Urinary catheter. Empty bladder flush with saline and collect some of the last saline. Spin down the saline and remove the cells. Place on slide and dry stain with diff-quick. Very common stain used by most medics or lab people who use medical microscopy. Everyone? I should hope so. Very fast, very cheap, very accurate for Dx of distemper. If present then Distemper. If negative then either kennel cough or respiratory Herpes.

Now the VET can save the 0.4cc to have it tested in the lab and usually it is done by some private lab depending where you are located. If the titers do show up you can tell how long the dog was infected.

You also need to take some blood to check the WBC count since Distemper goes after the bone marrow.

Also you need to give your dog after all this done 0.5cc of Baytril, and 0.1cc of penicillin G as combined shot twice a day for 7 days. This will take care of the pneumonia since Distemper causes it.

After all this is done you can only hope that the dog responds and needs lots of loving care. If it pulls thru, it will live and the seizures should abate slowly over the course of time. Hopefully it will stop and if it does you wind on the disease battle

Keep in mind the Distemper virus in the CSF cannot get out and it is stuck inside the cord system and with the NDV it neutralizes it causing a Mexican standoff. The main purpose of having the NDV in the CNS system is to stop the deadly C4-T cells from doing anymore damage. Basically it turns it off. Like a switch.

You can only do this one time for the body and only one time for the CNS. So remember that.

After all this DO NOT VACCINATE THE DOG WITH ANY DISTEMPER VACCINE OR ANY MODIFIED LIVE VIRUS PARVO VACCINE. IT CAUSES PROBLEMS. The dog is already immune from Distemper for LIFE thanks to NDV. You can give Killed Parvo later on like 6 months later or until all the seizures have stopped. Do not give until then. Avoid any distemper vaccine or any Live virus Parvo vaccine. OK

The rest is up to you now and to your VET. The sooner this is done the better the odds are in favor to your dog. Over 600 have been saved up to date and the number keeps climbing, thanks to Dr. Sears for his wonderful discovery. He also came up with the serum which is a lot better but most VETS don't have good dogs to do this proceedure. NDV is your only hope for now since it is an emergency case.

Keep posting and let me know the results. Remember the time frames the NDV cures the body part between 12-48 hours, and the NDV covers the CNS between 18 -36 hours. So if you do both the same time then the dog will be in good shape by the 48th hour. You are welcome to make copies to give to your VET. I hope he cooperates and is willing to save your dog its life.

I will wait and see what you have to say. OK.

By the way NDV is NewCastles Disease Virus vaccine. Get the LaSorta strain. If they ask you questions of why you need it tell them you need it for your chickens. This is to save you the hassle of a barrage of questions if you tell them you need it for your dog. So be smart OK

I was typing so fast before. On the pneumonia part you need 0.5cc of Baytril and 1.0cc (not 0.1cc) of penicillin G combined. Please make note of it.

I hope I corrected everything here.

Go for it. and save your dog.
