Our German Shepherd with distemper

Post a new topicby livingwith on Sun Aug 10, 2008 5:55 pm

We adopted Dillion from the MidSouth Shepherd rescue 3 years ago.
As a puppy we were told that he was in the hospital until he was 8 months old. His owner could not afford his medical cost, leaving him at the animal hospital.
He was then given to the midsouth Shepherd Rescue, a shelter for shepherds with no family. They take care of them until they find a home.
Well, we found Dillion. He was about 9 months old. He was a little skittish but a very sweet boy.
It always seemed a little off. We kne...Read the full article

Hi I am Daveyo

Get some NDV right now immediately. You need to have the vet administer this via the CSF. The vet has to do this at the Foramen Magnum.

What your dog is now having is ODE last phase factor which guarantees death. You will also need to kill this virus in the body and you have to do the body injection first before the CSF. Doing both at the same time is your only alternative but do 12 hours apart. First body, then 12 hours later the CSF.

Then wait 24 hours for each one.

If you get the NDV and do the CSF tap it will take 24 hours for it to take full effect and it will hopefully stop the ODE and any further progression. It depends on how much damage the virus has done all this time.

Here is the Dx.

The vet needs 1 NDV with diluent. NDV of the LaSorta Strain.
Needs to have anti-shock meds.
Needs to have anethesia to put the dog to happy land as to not move around
Needs to shave the bottom part of the skull in line with the spinal cord, on the back just below the skull and spine. This is the Foramen Magnum and the Cerebral Cranial Cavity.
Needs two syringes with needle
Needs one catherer
Needs to have I.V. flowing
Needs to have 0.4cc of NDV and 0.1cc of saline solution
Needs to take out of the spinal fluid total of 0.9cc. Discard 0.5cc of fluid. Leave 0.4cc of spinal fluid in the syringe and add 0.4cc of NDV and mix - make sure no air in syringe and then insert it back via the catherer. After this then flush with 0.1cc of saline to not leave any NDV in the needle hub.

Then wait for the dog to wake up. Once it stands on its own two feet or wags its tail you can take it home and basically pray you did this on time. Time is your main factor right now.

If the VET does this right I hope it is done on time, your dog will live. It takes 24 hours for the virus to stop and for it to stop the ODE both ways..

After that monitor for next 30 days. The damage caused by the virus will show you its results. After about 50 to 60 days the dog will begin to recover. It will take about a year and it should be OK depending on its genetics.

Monitor the WBC especially right now.

You can find NDV at any agricultural poultry store or from any chicken farmer. They can tell you where there is some. If not hit the phone book and call the Agriculture Department where NDV is sold at. Don't tell them its for a dog, just tell them you need it for the chickens. Save yourself a host of questions. You don't have time to yip yap to them. OK.

Also since this being an emergency, please go to my site at [moderator note: website address has been removed] and register there and look at the board and find Canine Distemper. Under that look for the Medical protocol to cure your dog. Follow this completely.

I also have there some sources of where you can find NDV immediately.

please write back to me and have this vet do this immediately as it being a dire emergency. You don't have much time.
