I am sorry to hear about Winston. My puppy Miley of 3 months is currently in the hospital (10 days now) with distemper. She has had it for about 3 weeks now. Today we had good news and bad news. The good news is got a little of her appetite back, but the bad news is she also showed her first sign of twitching in the jaw. We are going to see what happens in the next 3 days.

Story background. We live in S. Korea. We got Miley on Sunday August 31st. On Monday September 1st she first vomited, took her to the vet, said she was home sick. The next day she was fine and acting like a puppy. Wednesday she got diarrhea, took her to the vet and gave her medicine for that. Thursday she had a running nose, took her to the vet and gave her medicine for that. By Saturday she wasn't eating, took her back to the vet and she had fever, so they put her on an IV. Sunday I went back she said she might have distemper so we took the test and it came back negative, well I wasn't buying it. She recommend a hospital and we took her right away. On Monday, 1 week later the new vet says Miley has pneumonia, I was devastated. By this point I did all the research I could possibly do about distemper(i never heard of it before) and I knew she had it. For the next week the vet treated her for the pneumonia. As her symptoms progressed I knew she had distemper. The doctor had already tested her again and it came back negative. I told him do it again please, so he tried a different brand and this time it came back positive (never trust the distemper kits, look at the symptoms). Theres nothing of course that the doctor can do but now he knows what to look for and whats to come. Miley has had some good days and bad, which is deceiving because we thought we would be bringing her home soon, but now that we know its distemper, we know to wait and she whats to come. The only thing now is to make her as comfortable as possible as we wait to see what happens.

I will keep you posted and please do the same. Winston sounds like a fighter which is his best bet at beating this virus.

First what kind of meds is your dog getting??? The only kind of meds that can stop Canine Distemper completely both for the body and for the CNS is NDV and a Serum of which can be made but for now the NDV is the only item you need to find. The cure is 24 hours. NDV is Newcastles Disease Virus Vaccine of the LaSorta strain.

You are welcome to go to my site at caninedistemper.proboards60.com and obtain the complete information under Canine Distemper and the medical protocol of which you can copy and give to the VET immediately. Please do not change this protocol as it is the only specific instructions as it will give you a complete success. Any change to it, you will fail.

You can obtain NDV from any Agricultural Poultry store. You have to weigh your dog and the Dx is 0.1cc for every pound or 0.45 kg. In regards to the CSF tap it is based on the size of the dog at the time of such tap. So take a look at your dog and compare to the size chart being a toy all the way up to Giant size. Once you determine the size of the dog then go to the chart instructions which is also in my site and have the VET follow everything from there.

Good luck.

Hope to hear from you again.

Thankyou Daveyo for your kind information. Unfortunatly it's too late as for we had to let Winston go a week ago as for he started to deteriorate. I do miss him very much but i couldnt let him suffer anymore and i will never forget him.

Thankyou so much for taking an interest in my case.

Thank you so much for replying to my two postings on this website. I heard about this NDV in the last couple of days from doing so much research on the Internet. Here’s my situation. I am in Korea. I had my vet ask around Seoul (capital of Korea) at the research hospital for animals and no one’s heard of the vaccine. So I went ahead and tried to call some VET locations back in the states including California, Texas, and I am not sure where else to be honest; I just kept being transferred and forwarded and given numbers to call but no one has been able to help me. Secretaries say I need to talk to a vet and call back in 3 hours, or 4 hours, or 5 hours. I feel as though I’m getting the run around. Korea is literally the complete opposite in time so to call all these times meant 2am to 6am my time and I got nothing. Is there a more direct route for geting the medicine I need to help my puppy?

I have a great Pyrenees, 3months, 14kgs. She has been through the vomiting, runny nose, pneumonia phase, and has pulled through. She currently has a little diarrhea, is eating, and has began experiencing mild seizures from her head and has a little difficulty walking.

I will ask my vet tomorrow to find someone who can do the CSF (with lots of experience with this). I will also pass on the information you have given me although she is out of the pneumonia stage, he should know this for future cases, if he didn’t already know.

You asked what kind of meds the puppy is on; she just got off her IV (which had vit B and C). The vet is now giving her some Asian medicine for the twitching in her head, he is aware that is not a cure.

I already showed my vet previously this NDV that I found on the internet but he was skeptical because it’s so new. He also doesn’t speak English well so he is not confident in calling the states to get more information.

I went to her website and printed everything out for him but its all in English and it might take him ages to translate it all, but I am hopeful he’ll get through it.

Now I read on the internet that there is a Newcastle vaccine for birds. Is this the same thing? My vet did call around like I said and only found the Newcastle for birds. I told him to look for the LaSorta Strain but I am not sure if it is different or not.

Look for chicken farmers or ask your nearest agricultural animal and poultry department agency. You can usually find NDV at any agricultural poultry store. However chicken farmers ususally will point you in the right direction to find some. Thailand also has it too. Hmmm, if it possible it can be shipped out to you ASAP. Hard to get here too as so many use it.

So start with the government first, as they will know where there is some. Get your phone book out OK. Tell them you have chickens and you need some. That alone will get you started and they usually will tell you almost right away. Look under agriculture department.

Don't tell them it is for your dog. You will have a lot of explaining to do. So save yourself that hassle.

Georgia in USA has it and usually it is shipped abroad so your country has it also.

Very common for the chickens.

However that is the only known cure as it can only be given once for the body and once for the CNS. The cure is rapid in 24 hours. Tested and proven and very much authentic.>>>>Medically.

Keep posting OK.

Also you need to go to my site which is caninedistemper.proboards60.com which contains all the medical information under canine distemper involving the medical protocol and all you will truly need to know about this disease. Very descriptive. Register and get in there and make the copies and give to your VET.

My vet here in S. Korea called me before I could give him information on the CSF tap and to use same NDV as used on chickens/birds. He said the research of team that he has been talking to told him to put Miley (my puppy) to sleep, so he wants to do that ASAP. I told him I would go after work today and discuss the information you've given me and he said ok.

I do believe in Korea we do have the NDV but its for birds, I hope that's the same thing. The other dilemma we have is finding someone with experience who will do the CSF tap. We will discuss all this tonight but for hims its difficult because he doesn't speak much English as most of Korea has this problem.

He said Miley is now in a lot of pain. I don't want her to be in any pain, what should and can I do? Please help me, we are running out of time.

Thanks Sophie, the doctor thought it would be best to put her to sleep this evening, but he promised to do more research on this NDV. We didn't get to see her because the doctor wanted us to have good memories of her and the condition she was in this evening was really bad. It was hard to leave that vet clinic knowing I would not see her again. I will remember her, was definitely the smartest and sweetest 3 month puppy I ever had. Take care Sophie.
