I bought my son a Chihuahua puppy about 1 month ago. Max was about 6 wks old when we brought him home. We all fell in love with him. Tragically, Max had Distemper and got very sick. We put Max to sleep today. It was very hard on all of us. I had to explain to my son that he was going to Heaven with his Grandma and she was going to take care of him for us. Max is no longer suffering. Rest in peace our puppy angel.

Something is not right concerning your story here. First of all if you got that puppy at 6 weeks it should have had maternal antibodies good for another 3 weeks. After week nine the antibody level drops and before this period on week 8 you should have had given it the first series shot.

What happened here?? How was the diagnosis made concerning your dog?

You might have put down a dog that (I am suspicious) was sick but treatable and it would be alive today.

I would like to hear from you on this matter.

Dr. Sears and I are experts on Canine Distemper and this disease is now curable both for the body and in the central nervous system.
