Is it distemper? We brought home a young Australian Cattle Dog from a nasty rural California shelter after our old cattle dog had died at 16. He had a little cough, but we assumed it was kennel cough. He was put on Clavamox. We think he had been in the shelter for about two weeks when we got him, and he had been vaccinated against the usual infectious diseases upon being admitted to the shelter. He tested negative for heartworm at his first vet visit.
He got quite a bit sicker over the next few days, eating ...Read the full article
Re: Is it distemper?Greetings. Let me try to educate you a bit on Distemper. You mentioned low fever here, and Distemper always has high readings of 103 deg F to 106 deg F. Yes you mentioned other signs but those signs will not show up until the Distemper reaches secondary stage.
The proper way and the most accurate way and quickest way to test for Distemper is the following so get your Vet to do this. OK ->>>>> The very best test for rapidly diagnosing ACUTE distemper is to do what is called a bush border smear of the cells of the inside lining of the bladder. These cells ALWAYS have inclusions. So, easy to collect, easy to stain (quick dip) and instantly diagnosed with inclusions in these cells. If present then Distemper. If not then something else. You will get many false readings doing anything else in testing for Distemper. The virus is very tricky indeed. Also if such is confirmed by doing this test as I told you above go under the topic of Canine Distemper and look for the title saying """""For Any Confirmed Cases of Distemper"""" dated October 27th, and there I have put all the instructions down that CURES DISTEMPER and the cure is between 12-48 hours. You must follow it and not deviate from it. Keep posting and I will be watching. You must act fast if the dog has Distemper. This is a very bad virus and the worst around and very highly contagious and it is an airborne and contact type. Basically this virus destroys the dog literally, and is much worse than Rabies.
