Re: Coping with loss of best friend to distemperSorry to read here the loss of your dog.
Number 1 your dog had the disease for a good 30 days or more but no more than 35 tops Number 2 I am surprised that you did not even bother to recognize that your dog was sick. Number 3 Your dog was telling you a lot thru all the signs, goop in the eyes, hardening of the pads etc. Number 4 I do suggest you clean out your home area and clean the floors with bleach. The virus can stay for a good 30 days in your home, and do wash all your clothes and throw out all those toys etc. Number 5 I do also suggest that you study up a bit on Distemper and learn from it so this does not happen again. Number 6 and the most important of all, Please do vaccinate your dogs on schedule and do not compromise their vaccinations. Number 7 here is the good news. There is a cure for Canine Distemper both for the body and also for those after day 6 onward of which the virus invades the Central Nervous System. This is the part that you experienced of which your dog had the seizures known as Old Dog Encephalitis. The cure is Newcastle's Disease Virus Vaccine of the LaSorta Strain. Also known as NDV. I wish you good luck. If you ever need help look here first for the help. Daveyo
