BuckleyI recently went to a local animal shelter to find a new family pet. I looked at several dogs and was disappointed that I didn’t get that “feeling” about one of them in particular. I asked if there were any other dogs available, and the kennel attendant asked if I had met Buckwheat.
She brought in a beautiful, shiny black Lab mix. He was very calm and affectionate, and came over to say hello immediately. Then he promptly sat down at my feet and leaned into me to be petted. T...Read the full article
Re: BuckleyGreetings, your dog Buckley is one of the very few Canine Distemper survivors. Most over 80% die.
Right now your dog has myelin damage in the spinal canal and it is PROGRESSIVE and I am referring to about the permanent myoclonus in that he has a tremor in his left front leg. Yes your dog will get worse over the course of time. Eventually your dog will be getting OLD DOG Encephalitis, which is seizures. The Distemper itself breached the blood brain barrier and now is an antibody in the CSF. The description of what you gave is quite diagnostic and self evident. You can however stop this from happening. I have posted on this forum under Canine Distemper and also it is in the website on how your VET can do the CSF tap and inject the NDV to stop the mess and give the myelin and the Schwann cells a chance to recover and save your dog from the SECOND DEATH SENTENCE that will occur later WITHOUT ANY NDV. Dogs without any NDV in their CSF and having the blood brain barrier breached will DIE between 14 days to 8 years. The seizure will happen suddenly and without warning. The dog will not give you an advance tip off. The seizures can be from either very light which is a barking seizure, to a full blown seizure which locks the dog and it is quite obvious. Once these seizures start the dog has about only 14 more days to live. (On average) and it gets really bad towards the end. Giving the dog the NDV will save the dog and give the myelin and Schwann cells a chance to repair itself. Be advised that after the NDV is given to the dog, depending on the damage to the myelin that is inflammed because of the antibody being present, yes the dog will have a few seizures. This is normal because it is stopping the mess and correcting and fixing the problem. The seizures are caused by the T-killer cells set off from the autoimmune system. These T-killer cells are the ones causing all the damage to the myelin because the Distemper antibody is on the myelin which is not suppose to be there in the first place inflamming and stripping away the myelin. Therefore this T-killer cell attacks everything there and causes the seizure. The NDV will stop this T-killer cell and the mess it causes, and handle the Distemper antibody on its own. It changes the cell structure in the fluid. Once stabilized the dog will not get the Encephalitis and also the dog probably will not have anymore of the tremors in his left leg and return back to about 90% normal. Depending on the genetics of the animal and how severe the damage was done to the myelin in the first place. As of the teeth, there is an excellent place that does the teeth for dogs in putting the Enamel Epoxy or capping. Here is the link to this site, and I suggest you contact them. The teeth have no protection of enamel coating and it will eventually cause the teeth to crack and break off. The link->http://www.avds-online.org/benefits.html I hope this information is of help to you and that you can indeed save your dog prior to the major future event soon coming. Feel free to post here if you need to ask me any questions.
Re: BuckleyAmazing how you can predict my dog's future, when even his educated vet cannot. I'll just love him and take it as it comes. Thanks. I wasn't looking for a "cure", just sharing my story that there are some dogs that do survive distemper, and what outcomes my dog has had.
Re: BuckleyI was not talking of about your dog. I was talking about all the dogs and the bleak future that they have because the DISEASE IS PROGRESSIVE leading to death-> without a cure. Now that there is a cure they have a much better chance to live a normal leading life, without suffering its terrible aftereffects if the owners themselves want to save their dogs and the terrible fate heading towards them.
it has nothing to do with predicting the future -> its plain fact. Since you say you have a highly educated VET why not ask him what happens to dogs that survive Distemper and if they will get the OLD DOG? I would think your dogs WBC is very low since you said your dog survived the disease all on his own. Distemper will also attack the bone marrow. Most VETS do not want to scare their customers, much less tell you the real McCoy truth what the Disease does. Let alone tell you that your dog is going to have the high probability of getting the seizures later on especially when the dog shows obvious secondary signs after all said and done without doing the cure. Depends on that CSF tap test. If positive YES, if negative NO. Have you studied anything on MS in humans??? Read up on it. The only difference is it takes 20-25 years before it shows up and on dogs it is accelerated to such an extent that this same disease kills inside of 30-35 days from onset of infection. It is slo mo in humans but hog wild in animals speed wise. I am most happy to read that your dog survived, and that you LOVE your dog. It does take a lot of courage to weather out the storm, and also deal with its deadly after effects let alone altering your life to some extent because of the dogs impairments. Distemper is actually MEASLES, MS in humans is actually MEASLES. Measles is the same virus in both situations. Over 30,000 people die in AFRICA alone every year. It will kill humans as well. Hence the measles shots, or Distemper shots to avoid getting the super hit. The virus attacks the nervous systems both in humans and in animals. On some human people this same virus strain will breach the blood brain barrier. Hence the MS in humans. Many researchers today are still trying to figure out why some of the diseases can breach this barrier whereas on some other diseases cannot get thru this barrier. It is a strong suspect having to do with the genetics of the living species. They are still on it. Only just recently last month, they have finally come up with a means to get the myelin and schwann cells to repair itself in the spinal canal. Currently it is being processed to the FDA for approval. I have been on this issue with them directly the past month, and now is working with them to try to get the T-killer cells stopped.(without using NDV) If they do not get the T-killer cells stopped,(which the NDV does) their serum will be worthless because that too will be getting destroyed. However this shows promise and hopefully as I translate the knowledge from Dr. Sears to them we can find the cure once and for all. The two experts will not speak to each other because of DOCTOR PROTOCOL to not interfere with each other. So, it happens that I am the middle person getting things done. So wish me luck that this succeeds not only for you and for me but for others that have this affiction, and also for our dogs at the same time. I hope it works. So in the meantime that NDV is our only SAVIOUR to save our dogs from this deadly disease they get before they are fully vaccinated. Nothing else is known to work at present time EXCEPT for the serum that Dr. Sears created HIMSELF 30 years ago which is even better. Otherwise Nothing at all.
Re: BuckleyYes, I work in the human healthcare field and understand MS quite well.
And yes, my vet has discussed my dog's prognosis with me at length. In fact, I've shared it in other posts on this board. There are no surprises ahead for me, and I expect to take each stage in stride. I've adopted my dog for better or for worse. He's incredibly bright, responsive, and eager to please. When the time comes that he'll need me, I'll be there for him. I have no other expectations.
