cat with CalicivirusHi, I have a year old cat who was a rescue. My son found her when she was about 3 weeks old. He mom who was feral had been hit by a car and she and her brother were in some tall grass next to a warehouse. When she was 8 weeks old, I took her to the Vet and had her vaccinated against calicivirus. I had it done again a month later. She has been fine until about a week ago. She started to act standoffish, and didnt want to eat. She is an inside/outside cat! I took her to a vet this morning and after several tests and $300 was told she has Calicivirus! I am not sure how she could get it after being vaccinated? Is it possible to get this virus after being vaccinated? Please help!
Re: cat with CalicivirusI have a 9 year old cat named Stormy that has this virus. In 2000,a neighbor found him in a parking lot and brought him home. She wound up letting me have him.I took him to the vet to get all of his shots, worming, etc. In 2008 he was diagnosed with the Calicivirus. He does not have a discharge coming from his eyes or nose, but has horrid breath and drools something awful! He gets sores in his mouth and eating is hard for him.Sometimes he cries in pain even when he is not eating! The vet said there is no cure, yet it is not fatal. The most recent trip to the vet he got a Depo Medrol shot(Like a steroid)and was put on an antibiotic called Clindamycin. This treatment has worked the best for him,but results only last about 2 weeks..............maybe 3.I am afraid your poor little kitty was already exposed to the virus like mine was.
