CalicivirusI bought an Oriental ShortHair kitten from an excellent breeder. His name is PaeSong and he is the most loving cat, 7month old. He tested positive for ths virus and now my Siamese, 3 years old also tested positive and they are both in peril. Right now they are eating and are playful. The younger one has been dealing with colds since I got him. I did not know about this virus. We have been to the vet constatly. I am heartsick becasue we love both these cars. Now I shortened my Siames's life and he also is a sweet cat.. They both get along so great. They are always together and that is why my Siamese got sick. My vet was wonderful, he talked to me on the phone for 30 minutes today and yesterday his wife spoke with me for 20 minutes on the phone. I have to wait to see what happens with my Siamese. PaeSong, the 7 month kitten has been fighting illness since we got him. His blood test had 2 things on it and they were very high numbers. His chances look bleak. I appreciate reading your entries . I do not feel so alone. My daughter and I cry everyday and your information, even your sadness and suffering makes us feel that we have support because you understand what we are going through. I never go on forms and rarely use the computer but now I need this support. Thanks for posting your situations. My breeder tells me to be optimistic but my vet does not agree becasue PaeSong cannot get over the flu-like symptons. We can prolong his life a little longer but I know symtoms can change quickly and be fatal quickly. I too feel terrible that I brought this illness to my Siamese who was so healthy.
Re: CalicivirusHello,
I am sorry to hear about your pet's illness. My husband and I love the Oriental Shorthair breed and when the opportunity presented itself in August, we bought 2 more kittens to replace our beloved older pets who died because of old age. Unfortunately, the breeder where we purchased our kittens, sold us a kitten with the virus, but we did not know that at the time. Now this kitten, Pepper has given his brother, Reno the virus. We are treating with Inteferon 1 x a day and Lycine 2 times a day. I do not know what to expect regarding their long term prognosis. We have 2 older cats that (for now) appear to be okay.
